awesome you’re working out. However, the lottery, how much did you win?”
I whipped out my phone and started the app I had set up. “Check it out, one thousand five hundred dollars.”
“What? One thousand five hundred dollars?!”
Jeffrey blinked hard, thinking his eyes were playing tricks on him. He grabbed my phone and
started a mad dash through the internet, hunting down the latest lottery numbers.

By the time he finished, a whole half hour had slipped by. His voice was tinged with desperation, “I’ve poured more than one thousand five hundred dollars into these tickets…”
He paused, then turned to me with a hopeful look, “Yasmine, did you really wish for one hundred fifty million on your birthday night?”
I had not made a wish at all that night. Of course, a little white lie would never hurt, right?” Sure, just a bit of wishful thinking. Everyone’s got dreams,” I said with a shrug.
Jeffrey caught a glimpse of my silver–streaked hair and seemed to find some solace. “Well, there’s still one ticket left, and the draw is in a few days. Maybe that’s where the one hundred fifty million is hiding,” he said, tucking the ticket away like a precious gem.
“Yazzy, if you hit that hundred fifty million, I’ll be rolling in a sweet ride, living in a mansion, and we could even get help for my sister’s legs…”
He looked at me with eyes full of hope, like I was his last lifeline. Inside, I could not help but scoff, ‘Sorry to burst your bubble, buddy.‘
I had left my job on a whim last time. This time around, I went to my friend’s company the very next day to sort out my resignation. While I was zoning out in the elevator, thumbing through Facebook, I stumbled upon a plea for help. “What’s this that popped up out of nowhere today?”
The photo showed a young guy with a chest crisscrossed with nasty scars. I knew right away- it was Jeffrey’s secret account.
It looked like the old beggar was gearing up to leech off Jeffrey’s youth after swapping health with Juliet.
A comment popped up. [Looks like you’re dealing with some old guilt, huh?]
The cry for help was zapped from the internet in no time.
Just a few minutes later, Jeffrey’s text buzzed in.
[Yazzy, did
did you
check out the car and house I told you about?]
[I heard you’re swinging by the office today for some paperwork, so I’m hanging out here waiting for you!]
