“Some people are so heartless, they won’t even help someone in need. When they visit someone who’s ill, they can’t even be bothered to bring multivitamins and honey. What a disgrace!”
The reason I ended up with Jeffrey? It all started on a street corner when I found Juliet passed out in her wheelchair.
I quickly called 911, stayed with her until we got to the hospital, and even covered her hospital bill of 1.5 thousand dollars.
However, my good deed did not earn me Juliet’s thanks. Instead, when I faced a major crisis in my previous life and could not find Jeffrey after dozens of calls, I finally reached Juliet.
I begged her, for old times‘ sake, for the life I once saved, to tell me where Jeffrey was.
However, she turned on me, siccing her tiny Chihuahua–a small breed of dog–on me to nip
at me.
There I was, stuck in my wheelchair, flailing my arms in vain as the little dog kept biting my lifeless leg.
I let out a cry of utter hopelessness.
Juliet just stood there, cackling like a deranged hyena.
“Isn’t this hilarious, Yasmine? Don’t you just love how powerless you feel?” she jeered. “You only saved me to make me owe you one, right? Well, how do you like my way of saying thanks?
I ignored the sting in my hands, held the dog tightly, and yelled back at her with everything I had. “Juliet, if I hadn’t dialed for help, you’d be missing a limb right now. Don’t you ever worry about things coming back to haunt you?”
Juliet booted the dog aside and mumbled something about it being utterly useless.
She crossed her arms, towering over me with a sneer. “Haunt me? Oh, please. That’s my family’s cursed pearl bracelet. Once it’s in play, there’s no undoing it!
“You’re hoping to get back at me? Dreaming of seeing me paralyzed or worse? Keep dreaming, maybe in your next life!”
She stuck her tongue out at me, her face a mask of smugness and defiance.
