When I opened my eyes again, I was face to face with a stranger. I gasped in shock.
But then, from the couch across the room, I heard the most familiar voice- “Honey, how are you feeling? Are you any better?”I just said you needed to take care of your physical needs. It’s a shame I promised Fintan I wouldn’t let any other man touch me for six months, including you.”
My whole body trembled uncontrollably, and I clenched my fists. “You drugged me?”

Genevieve let out a soft sigh, “It’s just to liven things up, it won’t harm your body. I’ve asked about it.”
“Besides, Fintan uses it often and he’s never had any issues. He said that your hormones are out of whack because your physical needs aren’t being met, that’s why your emotions are so unstable.
I still looked at Genevieve in disbelief, “Do you really not care about my feelings at all? You wouldn’t even bat an eye if I slept with other women?” I tried to detect even the slightest change in her expression.
Genevieve placed her hand on my chest, her face beaming with a smile. Her eyes, brimming with intense love as she looked at me, seemed utterly ironic from my perspective.
“It’s okay, honey. I told you, we have an open marriage. Everyone’s just having fun. As long as we understand each other and we’re still the ones we love most, it’s fine. We’ll always come back to our family in the end.”
Genevieve grew up abroad, and while I knew she had liberal views, I never imagined they’d be this twisted!
What bullshit about an open marriage, it’s all just an excuse for her unfaithfulness!
For the sake of pleasure, to manipulate me, she’s dragging me down to hell with her.I look at her exquisite face and laugh, but as I laugh, my eyes grow red and moist, the stinging pain in my swollen eyes feeling like they’re carrying a thousand–pound weight.
Layer upon layer of disappointment gradually accumulates, ultimately transforming into irreversible despair.
I stare blankly out the window.
“Honey, I’ve had our marital home thoroughly cleaned, and all the furniture has been replaced. As soon as you’re discharged from the hospital, we can move back in anytime!”
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t restore your grandmother’s painting to its original state. but I’m already looking for experts in that field!”

“Fintan’s parents had a relapse of their old condition due to the shock, so they
can’t come to see you and apologize in person. I know you’ve always been forgiving, and you certainly wouldn’t give them a hard time, right? So I’ve forgiven them on your behalf, and we can put the past behind us.”
“I know you’re not in a good mood, so I’ve talked to Fintan. I’ll be staying home with you for a while. As long as I-”
“Who said I’m going home?” I interrupt her.
She looks at me in bewilderment, “If not home, do you still want to stay in the hospital?”
I turn my head to look at the woman who’s been hiding under the covers, listening to all the commotion.
I slowly extend my hand, pointing at her, while my eyes, full of mockery, fix on Genevieve. “I’m going to stay at her place!”
Genevieve is momentarily stunned, frozen in place. My eyes were lifeless, but I curved my lips into a smile. “One night wasn’t enough for me. Do you want to keep standing there watching us?”
Genevieve’s face took on an unusually troubled expression.
She remained rooted to the spot, her lips quivering slightly, but no words
came out.
Since she wouldn’t leave, I ignored her.
I turned and pulled back the covers, disregarding the woman pretending to sleep inside. I grabbed her chin and kissed her, unlike yesterday’s half–hearted attempt. I savored the taste of a woman other than Genevieve with utmost sincerity.
Genevieve stood there for who knows how long until a phone call broke the silence.
She finally answered with shaky hands, her peripheral vision catching her nearly dropping the phone.
