Chapter 4
Hendrix stared at me in silence.
It was then that Yana stepped out from behind him and glanced at Andrew, who was standing behind me.
She questioned, “Yvonne, did you get on his boat? But when the incident happened, there was no other yacht nearby. It was pitch black all around. How were you rescued?”
I was confused. What was Yana implying?
“Also, even though you and Hendrix were engaged, you were both competing for the Arden City project. You weren’t the person in charge of this project, so you didn’t need to attend. Hendrix had to represent his family for the bid. Now, at such a critical moment, something like this happens.
“Yvonne, with all these coincidences, do you really think it’s just luck? Or could it be that someone orchestrated all of this?”
What did she mean? Did she think I flooded the yacht?
I truly sympathized with Yana for what she went through in her past life, but that did not mean I would let her slander me.
Not to mention, this time, I was the one who saved her. Now, she turned on me after I helped her?
Unbelievable! If I had known, I would have just let her die in the ocean.
I glanced and saw the nearby police officer. I raised my voice and shouted, “Officer! I want to report this! Someone here is spreading false accusations!”
After that, we were all taken away by the police. While awaiting questioning, Yana still would not let up, glaring at me persistently.
“Yvonne, why don’t you answer me? Is it because everything I said is true, and you’re too scared to respond?”
I turned my head and shot her a cold look.
“Are you a cop? Why do I owe you an explanation? Who do you
think you are?”
She had the nerve to repay kindness with malice! As if I would be kind to her.
Yana was momentarily speechless. Hendrix, standing beside her, could not take it anymore. He stepped forward and spoke up, “Yvonne, how could you say that? Yana is just trying to find out the truth of what happened. After all, she’s a victim of the shipwreck!”
“She’s the victim, but am I not?”

Hendrix’s face turned pale with anger. He pointed at me and shouted, “Yvonne! Yana only wants to know the truth, and you’re being utterly unreasonable!”
Just then, Andrew walked out of the interrogation room, seeing the scene unfold. He strode over and stood directly in front of me.
“What’s going on? Planning to fight in a police station now?”
Andrew’s expression was dark, and his tone carried a certain intimidating authority. He glared at Hendrix, who looked ready to burst. I stood behind Andrew, watching the tension rise between the two men.
Hendrix was furious, but he still stood protectively in front of Yana, pointing at me as he demanded, “What’s your relationship with her?”
Andrew turned deliberately to look at me, his gaze filled with an almost overwhelming tenderness.
“What do you think?” he asked.
I lifted my head and stared into his eyes–those captivating almond–shaped eyes with slightly upturned corners, and that beauty mark under his eye. When he looked at me, gaze was filled with a thousand emotions.

Maybe it was because I was caught up in the moment, but before I realized it, I reached out and grabbed his hand.
Hendrix’s face darkened even more, and just as he was about to lose his temper, the police called him in for questioning.
Once everyone’s interrogations were complete, the truth was revealed.
The police had already identified a suspect. Once they made the arrest, they could take the
next steps.
Even though I knew the incident had been orchestrated by Hendrix’s rivals, I could not say a word without evidence.
As we walked out of the police station, Andrew suddenly took hold of my hand.
“Let’s go.
I was puzzled and questioned, “What?”
“Didn’t you say you wanted to stay at my place for a few days? I have an empty guest room. You can stay there.”
His sincerity warmed my heart, and I was about to nod and agree when Hendrix’s cold voice cut in.

“Yvonne, I’ve already informed your parents about the shipwreck. They’re very worried about you
and are on their way home now.
Hearing this, a wave of bitterness welled up inside me. How ridiculous it is that news about my own parents had to come from someone else.
As for them…
They had always been busy, too busy to celebrate my birthdays, too busy to attend my parent–teacher meetings.
