Chapter 16
“Alex” Serenity called out to her friend before the gravity of the situation hit her. Wait! Was she enjoying being in Sébastien’s arms? She quickly and with great effort disengaged from Sébastien’s embrace. She scolded herself internally for getting lost in his arms.
Things are gonna get difficult with Sébastien. The more shethought about, theh more she was starting to her decision of coming back.
“What? Do I need your permission from you before I do anything i want?” Sebastien replied coldly, pocketing his hands. Alex’s icy expression melted and was replaced with his usual smile when Serenity stepped away from Sébastien
“Mr. Williams, you seem to be forgetting something important. The woman you brought here in your arms is my wife, and your fiancée is still out there. Do you really want to make a mockery of yourself?” Despite his smile, there was something dangerous lurking behind his words.
Upon hearing Alex’s words, Sébastien’s scowl deepened and he clenched his fists tightly. Before he could respond. Serenity interjected with annoyance. “Enough from both of you. We’ll be working under the same roof in the same company, so I hope you can avoid any confrontations and remain professional,” she said sternly.
Ignoring the tense atmosphere, she turned to Sébastien. Before either man could comprehend her intentions, she raised her hand and delivered a hard slap to Sébastien’s face in the elevator.
“Serene!” Alex exclaimed in shock. He never imagined Serenity could do something like that to Sébastien.
But Sébastien didn’t even flinch. He just looked at her with hurt in his eyes.
He was indeed hurting, but not from the physical pain. He hurt because he could see the pain in Serenity’s eyes. The pain he caused. The pain she trying mask away.
Feeling like a fool, he took the hand she had used to slap him and examined it, “Does it hurt he whispered, not caring about his own burning cheek.
When he received no response from her, he lifted his gaze to meet Serenity’s and saw unshed tears in her eyes. Why would she cry now?
“Hey, hey… I’m sorry, okay? I’m sorry for everything. I’m sorry for not believing in you, for not being the best husband you deserved. I’m sorry for every damn thing I did to you.
I started looking for you as soon as you left. I couldn’t live without you. It was unbearable.” he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper.
“It was a foolish choice to let you go, and I take full responsibility for my actions. I mishandled our relationship and caused pain for you. I should have been a better husband.
That’s why I searched far and wide, hoping for the opportunity to meet you again and express how much you mean to me, though you may not believe me.
But it seemed as though even the heavens were against me, punishing me for my mistakes. Despite my efforts, I still couldn’t find you
When I spotted you in traffic yesterday, I couldn’t contain my joy. I wanted to hold you even just fir a mere a second. But your car sped off and I couldn’t catch up. I am deeply sorry, Serenity.
I do not ask for your forgiveness yet. I know im not worthy of that yet. I simply wish for a chance to make amends. Give me one last chanceto nake it up to you, please.” Sebastien spoke with such intense emotion that even Alex felt sympathy for him.
Upon further reflection of Serenity and Sébastien’s marriage, it becomes clear that Sébastien was also innocent in some capacity.
Serenity held back her tears and withdrew her hands from Sébastien’s grasp, using them to wipe away her emotions. She can’t be emotional now. It’s not like she hated him or something.
To Serenity, it wasn’t Sébastien’s fault that he didn’t love her back then. Every person’s heart chooses who to love for them.

And Serenity’s heart chose Sébastien for her. However, his heart had already chosen someone else at that time. So in all, she didn’t blame him.
However, what hurt the most is when Sébastien refused to believe in her innocence and divorced her without another thought. That’s where Serenity’s pain lies
“You do not need to apologize for anything. As I stated before, I hear no ill will towards you or your family. I simply do not wish to be entangled with someone like you again. Serenity’s words were firm, yet gentle.
Before Sébastien could respond, the elevator doors chimed open.
Serenity retrieved her makeup from her bag and quickly performed touch–ups before exiting the elevator.
She found herself sandwiched between two incredibly handsome men, drawing attention and envy from the employees on the last floor.
“Please maintain professionalism.” She whispered softly, though her comment was clearly directed at Sébastien.
Without speaking any further, they arrived at the conference room, greeted by Mark who opened the door for them.
As they entered, Serenity noticed that all the Williams family, including Ariana and other board members, were already seated, waiting for their arrival.
She was perplexed, but kept her composure. How did they arrive so quickly? Did the VIP elevator run slower?
Unbeknownst to her, Alex had pressed the pause button when Sébastien was confessing to her.
At last, his purpose for coming was set in motion. Both Serenity and Sébastien would be caught off guard when it was too late.
“Ha! I thought you were leaving for good” Sasha exclaimed with disdain as Serenity took her seat between Alex and Sébastien
I’m sorry to disappoint, Mrs. Williams. But it seems you’ll be stuck with me for a while since your son desperately wants to work with me.
And to make you feel better, I also hate the thought of seeing your face every day or working with you. But what can I do? I’ll just have to deal with it until everything is resolved. Serenity replied nonchalantly.
She didn’t even bother to look at Sasha as she spoke, her focus was on the document Sébastien had given to her as she twirled her pen between her fingers
“You–”
“Enough! Let’s begin the meeting!” Just as Sasha was about to berate Serenity, old Madam Williams intervened and cut her off.
The board members, taken aback and uncomfortable by the exchange between Serenity and Sasha, let out a sigh of relief.
“First, as your lawyer representing the company, I need to know all the details of the case, how it started, and where we currently stand.” Serenity rested her elbows on the table and interlaced her fingers as she spoke.
The tension in the room heightened as the issue was brought
- up.
Sébastien signaled for Mark to provide Serenity with all the necessary information,
Mark complied and informed Serenity of their current crisis. Some of the board members also added their own investigations.
After Mark’s presentation, Serenity finally had a clear understanding of the situation.
According to Mark’s analysis, she comprehended that someone had sabotaged their food products being delivered to
customers.
Numerous consumers who obtained and utilized the merchandise are now hospitalized and receiving medical attention.
Furthermore, the businesses that received large quantities of the products are now seeking reparation.
Consequently, these companies, along with the families of the hospitalized victims, have filed a lawsuit against MPK for

providing them with contaminated food.
“Is it not apparent that someone is deliberately sabotaging your company’s products?” Alex, who had been silent since entering
the room, suddenly spoke up, drawing the attention of everyone present.
“What do you mean by those gazes?” He asked, confused.
Even Serenity looked at him as if he were a fool.
