Emma lost her temper too, deciding to go all out: “Yes, it’s his! Happy now? Stop harassing me, James. I don’t love you anymore – how many times do I have to say it before you understand?”
The room fell dead silent.
James’s legs gave out, and he fell to his knees.
Right onto the broken vase pieces he’d just smashed.
He knelt there without hesitation.
Emma gasped, watching blood seep through James’s pants.
“Are you crazy? Get up!”
She instinctively tried to pull him up, but James wouldn’t budge.
With grim determination, he said: “I won’t get up until you forgive me.”
Emma was furious at this manipulation, speechless with anger.
James, thinking Emma was softening, continued pleading: “Even if the baby isn’t mine, I’ll accept it. Emma, I’ll do anything if you’ll come back.”
James had completely lost his dignity.
But Emma just found it laughable.
She stood up, watching like a spectator: “Fine, keep kneeling. Even if you break. your legs, I won’t come back.”
James stayed silent, gritting his teeth against the pain in his knees.
“Emma, James, what are you doing in there? I heard something break. Are you okay?”
Mrs. Foster pushed open the door.
She was shocked by the scene: “What’s going on?”
Emma knew she couldn’t hide it from Mrs. Foster anymore. She sighed deeply: “Mom, let’s get James to the hospital first. I’ll explain everything after.”
But James refused: “Mom, leave me. I won’t get up until Emma forgives me.” Emma thought James’s tactics were pathetic. She scoffed, exposing him: “Please. stop this fake devotion act.”
Finally, Mrs. Foster convinced James to go to the hospital.

Watching James enter surgery, Mrs. Foster worriedly asked Emma: “Dear, what’s really happening?”
Emma looked at this woman who’d been there her whole life, and choked up. Mrs. Foster had witnessed so many moments between them playing as children, getting together at eighteen, even giving Emma her own wedding keepsake at their wedding, hoping they’d grow old together.
Now it all felt like a dream.
Emma’s eyes welled with tears.
Finally, she whispered: “Mom, James had an affair.”
Such a light statement, as if they’d never been in love.
Mrs. Foster was stunned, unable to believe her son would do this.
Emma continued: “James had an affair with a singer. On her birthday, he bought her an engagement ring. I can’t compromise or forgive. I’m sorry, but our relationship is over.”
“Sweet child…” Mrs. Foster comforted Emma. “It’s okay, I understand and support your divorce. But with a baby involved, completely cutting ties with James isn’t realistic.”
Emma touched her stomach, wiping away tears.
“Don’t worry, I can take care of the baby.”
Mrs. Foster nodded, then darkened her face: “Once James recovers from surgery, I’ll teach him a lesson!”
Emma nodded silently.
She felt some relief having Mrs. Foster’s support would make the divorce easier.
