Divorce Has Never Felt So Good Ch 24

Chapter 24

39

Watching James desperately trying to explain himself made Emma’s stomach turn. It was disgusting

Stop. I don’t want to hear excuses, I just want one thing Lucy needs to publicly apologize to me.”

James grabbed Emma’s hand, eyes wide

Fine, I’ll make her apologize right now!”

Before Emma could react, James pulled her into his car and drove to a luxury apartment building

James took Emma to Lucy’s apartment

They found Lucy packing her bags

Her face still tearstained, she started crying again when she saw James: Didn’t you say you’d never contact me again?”

James scoffed, no longer hiding his cruelty

Did you forget that spreading lies has consequences?”

He grabbed Lucy’s hair, dragging her in front of Emma

Apologize! Did you hear me? Apologize!”

James used full force, as if trying to tear Lucy’s scalp off

Lucy screamed

Emma hadn’t even stepped into the apartment

Standing at the door, she could see the open kitchen

She’d seen photos of James cooking there

She realized this luxury apartment was the love nest James had bought for Lucy. Pregnancy had made Emma prefer quiet. Seeing Lucy screaming like

madwoman, Emma couldn’t bear to watch

She turned toward the elevator, James following close behind

Emma spoke deliberately: I’m giving you one day. I want to see Lucy’s public apology.”

But James asked: If she apologizes, can we cancel the divorce?”

Emma’s mouth twitched, answering without mercy: No.”

James deflated like a balloon, the light leaving his eyes

His fists clenched, his whole body trembling

Emma frowned impatiently: Are we going? If not, I’ll call a cab.”

James licked his dry lips, as if making a huge decision: Let me drive you home

One last time, okay?”

His words meant he was accepting the divorce

This surprised Emma..

She’d prepared for a long battle with James. Who knew he’d get tired too

That was perfect no more fighting needed

She agreed

As they left the building, heavy snow began falling

The first snow of winter in the city..

Emma sat in the passenger seat, both staying silent

She knew the city well. Thinking she’d soon leave, maybe never return, gave her mixed feelings

At a traffic light, James suddenly changed direction

Emma tensed up, afraid what James might do to her and the baby if he went crazy. James, where are you taking me?”

Emma reached fo

her phone, ready to call police

That moment, Emma felt utterly exhausted

People once so close now had to guard against each other

James smiled at Emma. A streetlight caught his face

His smile was gentle, like when he was eighteen, holding that chocolate from

Japan, saying: See? I have superpowers. I got it for you right away.”

Like ten years ago, first snow, when James kissed her frozen hand, asking carefully: Will you be my girlfriend?”

Emma snapped out of it quickly

She thought if eighteenyearold James saw himself now, he’d tell Emma not to forgive him
