Hansel thought he had won. He slid an enormous pink diamond ring onto my finger and solemnly promised, “Amber, I’ll treat you well for the rest of my life.”
Right at that moment, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen, and his expression shifted. I knew it was Nara calling, so I told him, “Go ahead and answer it.”
It was only then did Hansel press the answer button. Nara’s mawkish voice immediately came through, “Hansel, come quickly! The doctor just told me I’m pregnant! This is wonderful! We’re going to have a baby!”
Hansel’s face changed drastically, and he looked at me nervously. I stared back at him, equally shocked. I could feel my heart aching unbearably.
I had always thought Hansel loved Nara without realizing it. I never expected they had already been involved. On the very day I lost my child, Hansel welcomed a new one, and it was a child with the person he loved most.
How cruelly ironic.
With reddened eyes, I propped myself up and slapped Hansel hard across the face while shouting angrily, “You animal! If you were already sleeping with her, why did you still want to marry me?”
At that moment, I finally understood why Hansel hated me so much in my previous life after Nara died.
It was because not only did he lose the love of his life, he’d lost their child too. Even so, what did any of this have to do with me?
He was the one who failed to understand his own feelings. He was the one who insisted on marrying me.
Why should I pay such a devastating price for his loss?
Hansel quickly ended the call and tried to explain. “It’s not like that, Amber. I didn’t do it willingly. She… She drugged me on my birthday
“The next day, I even warned her never to let you find out, and I even bought her emergency contraceptives. I didn’t expect her not to take them; let alone end up pregnant with my child. You have to believe me.
“Amber, you’re the one I love. Haven’t these past four years proven that?”
I didn’t respond. My emotions were overwhelming, and I coughed up another mouthful of blood.
Ezra rushed over, shoving Hansel while yelling, “Get out! Just leave! Amber is going to die

from anger because of you. Scram!”
The man who had refused to leave earlier now suddenly acted like he cared about me. He said, “Amber, don’t get too upset. I’ll leave now, but I’ll come back tomorrow to see you. “Don’t worry, I’ll make Nara terminate this pregnancy. You’re the only one who can have my children!”
With that, he turned and walked away. But just before leaving, Hansel bumped directly into Sebastian, who was entering with the doctor.
I let out a mocking laugh. I knew Hansel was in a hurry to comfort Nara. He might have said he would make her terminate the pregnancy, but in truth, he treasured that unborn child more than anyone else.
In contrast, he never once asked me when I had become pregnant or why I didn’t tell him. To him, I was just a toy he hadn’t tired of yet. My child was nothing to him.
Afterward, the doctor examined me and concluded that I was simply overcome with anger and anxiety, but there was no serious issue.
Once the doctor left, Sebastian dipped a towel in warm water and gently wiped the blood from the corners of my lips. Meanwhile, Ezra poured me a glass of water and stood quietly nearby.
I said, “Sebastian, can you have your driver take Ezra back to school?”
Sebastian immediately called his driver. Ezra seemed like he wanted to say something, but I gave him a look.
He obediently handed me the glass of water and said a few words about taking care of myself before leaving reluctantly. He even turned back to look at me several times as he walked away.
After he left, Sebastian couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, “Why did you agree to marry Hansel? You… You’re such a proud person. How could you resign yourself to being something like his caged bird?”
I was about to explain, but he continued, “I know you’re afraid of Hansel. You’re worried you can’t stand up to him. But you still have me, Amber. If you’re willing, I… I…‘
His intense gaze locked onto mine, and his eyes were filled with sincerity. “I can help you take on the Lennox family.”
By the time he finished, his ears were already red. I responded calmly, “What difference would there be between being with you or him? Either way, I’d still be a caged bird for some big shot.”
Unexpectedly, Sebastian’s eyes reddened with grievance at my words. He protested, ‘ Amber, I’m not like Hansel! I don’t want you as some caged bird, and I don’t have a

damned childhood sweetheart.
“I like you for your looks, talent, and character nothing more, nothing less.”
His words struck me. I hadn’t expected that teasing him would nearly make him cry. I quickly said, “That’s not what I meant. I just don’t want you getting dragged into this mess.
Sebastian was clearly anxious as he replied, “I’m not afraid, Amber. Can you give me a chance to help you?”
