After that, I followed Hansel into the gilded cage he had built for me. From that day forward, I played the obedient, docile role, neither arguing nor competing about anything.
I seemed to have transformed into a canary that loved him so much I had lost myself entirely.
At first, Hansel visited frequently, but his visits dwindled to once a week as time passed. Each time he came, I could see the guilt deepening in his eyes.
He felt this way because he knew Nara would cause trouble behind his back. He knew about it but pretended not to. It was all because the Lennox family was tightly bound to the Sullivans, and he couldn’t afford to offend their heiress.
To make up for it, Hansel had showered me with expensive jewelry and handbags. I would have refused in the past, but now I accepted everything.
After all, playing along with their act could be considered part of my compensation for the emotional damage.
One day, I was feeling much better physically, so I used visiting Ezra as an excuse to go out. I knew Hansel had someone watching me at all times, so I made sure not to act
suspiciously.
In truth, I had quietly arranged a passport for Ezra. I even resigned from my job and started preparing for graduate school. My plan was to study abroad with Ezra in Autlia and settle there.
When I returned, I had just stepped out of the car when I heard the sounds of destruction inside the villa. As I entered, I saw Nara sitting on the couch. She was sipping coffee while her bodyguards smashed everything in sight.
Thinking of my upcoming departure, I felt a rare sense of joy. Smiling at her, I said, ” Showing up here every few days, don’t you get tired of it, Nara?”
Nara snorted coldly. “I’m not the one doing the work, so of course, I’m not tired.‘
I replied, “Well then, carry on.” With that, I headed to the kitchen.
Hansel had mentioned missing my seafood boil and said he would come over tonight. So, on my way back, I went to the supermarket to buy the ingredients.
Seeing how calm and unaffected I appeared, Nara snapped angrily. “Grab her!”
However, her bodyguards didn’t move and seemed hesitant. I mocked her, “Nara, do you really think they’d dare touch me?“.
“Hansel married you because he had no choice. Do I need to spell out who he truly

cherishes? Even your parents turn a blind eye to the fact that I’m living here. Do you think your bodyguards would dare lay a finger on me?”
Nara was enraged, and she splashed her coffee onto me. Her face twisted in fury as she screamed, “You’re lying! The one Hansel loves is me!”
As she spoke, something seemed to occur to her, and a smug expression spread across her face. “Oh, I never told you this, did I? On Hansel’s birthday, I drugged myself out of spite, planning to find another man to help me.
“But Hansel wouldn’t let me. He said I could only belong to him. Then, he took me to bed and fucked me again and again.
“He kept calling my name, saying he loved me and that he couldn’t live without me. Yet because I’m too willful, he decided you were a better fit to be his wife.”
Her satisfaction grew as she continued, and her voice was filled with excitement. “So, I decided to threaten him by pretending to jump off a building.
“Do you think Hansel didn’t know I wouldn’t actually jump? Of course, he knew. He was just afraid I might accidentally get hurt.”
I stared at Nara, who couldn’t stop talking. It seemed that in my previous life, she had taken her games too far, which ultimately cost her her life. She never truly intended to die.
Yet, because of her so–called “game“, it ended up sacrificing myself, Ezra, and my poor unborn child. The thought of it made me lose all restraint. So, I charged forward and
shoved her hard.
At that moment, Hansel, who had been standing at the doorway for a while, rushed in. His face was pale with shock.
He pushed me aside and hurried to help Nara, who had fallen onto the couch. “Nara, are you okay?” he asked, his voice filled with concern.
Then, he scolded while glaring at me, “She’s pregnant! How could you push her?”
Without a hint of emotion, I replied, “What are you afraid of? She landed on the couch, not the cold, hard floor. Her baby will be fine.”
My cold demeanor was so starkly different from my previous obedience and gentleness, and that unsettled Hansel. I noticed the unease flickering in his eyes.
He recalled Nara’s earlier words and reached out toward me with a mix of regret and hesitation. But I threw the bag of groceries I had bought at him instead.
The seafood in the bag spilled all over him, and Nara shrieked, “Hansel!”
I looked at Hansel and sneered coldly. “I truly am pathetic. To think I was even about to make dinner for you? Hansel, we’re over.”
