Chapter 25- Homeownership
Emelia’s POV
The sudden ring of a phone jolted me awake. I looked around and realized we were still in the back of Victor’s car.
I couldn’t believe that we stayed out here all night! I didn’t even remember falling asleep..
Victor groaned beside me as he groggily took out his phone
“Hello?” His voice was a mixture of annoyance and half–sleepiness.
The silence of our environment made it much easier for me to pick up who the voice belonged to on the other side of the line. Now still, hearing her voice made me grate my teeth together in frustration.
“Victor!” Lily greeted him sweetly. “Where are you? Don’t forget I’m getting discharged from the hospital today! You’re still coming to help me, right?”
In the hospital? Could that have been the reason why Victor left me in Blasdell when we were supposed to be on our trip?
I braced myself for the possibility of him leaving me to go be with her. Again.
It was like she was a fragile, porcelain doll that only he could handle; and he gave into it every time.
“Don’t worry, Lily. I’ve already arranged for staff to help you for the day. I have other commitments to Emelia that
I can’t back out of.” As Victor spoke those last words, he kissed the top of my head.
My eyes widened in shock. Did he just turn down Lily’s request? For me?
“But Victor!” Lily whined. “You’re the only one that knows how to take care of me. You know me so much better Gand-”
“I’m sorry, Lily, but I’m not going back on my word. Besides, they’ll know what to do because I’ve given them a list of all your preferences. They’ll take good care of you. We’ll talk later.”
“But
Before I could hear Lily refute his words, Victor had already ended the call.
The ending call tone made me feel a sense of relief. For the first time, Victor was actually putting his foot down. against Lily’s temper tantrums and putting me first.
“How about we head home, hmm?” Victor smiled. “I need a shower and plus I have a massive headache.”
I could help but laugh. “No more drinking for you!”
“Yeah… I won’t be doing that again.”
“I’ll leave a note for Alexis and come grab my things later.” I smiled sweetly. “But yes, let’s go home. I’ve missed being there with you.”
I spent the drive holding his hand and leaning my head against his shoulder. My heart was filled with a sense of hope that things would finally improve between us.
Once I was finally home and I stepped through the doors, 1 immediately noticed how the decor had completely changed. The beautiful landscape paintings I liked and the furniture I’d bought had been replaced.
I furrowed my eyebrows and crossed my arms. “If she’s to stay in our home, then she needs to realize that she’s a quest. Her replacing my things like she suddenly owns the place is wildly inappropriate.”

Victor nodded his head. “You’re right. How about, after we take a shower, I take you out shopping for new furniture and decorations? There are some new spots that just opened up that have some exclusive items you might like ”
“I like that very much.” Hissed him on the cheek.
As I was finishing up my routine, I couldn’t help but stare at Victor as he did the same. When he stepped out of the bathroom, his freshly shaven face and slicked back hair made my heart skip a beat.
He was so dashingly handsome, and while his looks weren’t the only reasons why I fell in love with him, they
definitely helped
Once I slipped my shoes on and went downstairs, I saw Victor in the kitchen preparing lunch
figured we could have something light before heading out today. I made your favorite salmon bowl.”
I smiled at his thoughtfulness and consideration. “Thank you, honey. It looks so good!”
1 sat on the bar stool and lovingly watched him as he continued his work. Happiness surrounded me and for the first time in a long time, I finally felt a weight lift off my shoulders.
However, the moment was short–lived once I heard the door knob turn and felt the rush of the outside air channel into the house.
Lily stood at the door and she immediately looked at me. Her eyes narrowed in a scowl. “What are you doing here?”
“It’s my home.” I stated flatly.
Lily rolled her eyes and turned her attention to Victor. “Where were you today? I told you I needed help, and your staff were no fun to be around at all. It’s like you don’t care about me.”
“I already told you what my plans were.”
“I’m not in the mood for your complaints today, Lily. You shouldn’t have expected me to go back on my word.”
Lily Tuffed and crossed her arms. She then scanned the home and seemed to notice that her decorations were gone. Her paze snapped to me as her nostrils flared. “Did you move my things? Who do you think you are, touching my stuff without my permission?”
I couldn’t hold myself back from laughing at her audacity. “You mean like how you moved my things without my permission, right?”
“It doesn’t matter. This is Victor’s house anyway! So what does it have to do with you?” Lily snapped back.
“This is our house, as in it’s my house, too. You’d do well to remember that before you think about rearranging my home.”
Lily scoffed and raised a brow at me. “Do you even have the salary to buy this house? Let alone any house? Don’t act like you own anything here!”
