Chapter 29 Complicated Worrying
Victor’s POV
“I’m getting you to a hospital, now!” I ran with Lily in my arms out into the parking lot. By the time I’d reached my car, I was out of breath. Damn this suit for restricting my movement.
“Victor..” Lily pouted. “I think I’ll be okay as long as I get back to the house and get some rest.”
“Absolutely not.” I refuted calmly. “I’m not risking your health.”
Ever since that fateful day, Lily’s legs have been a constant source of worry for me. After she’d saved my life from the river’s current, she almost got washed away herself. When I pulled her back to land, both of her legs were covered in blood.
I swore that even the whole river had turned red after th
that.
After that day, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t let anything like that happen again. It’s been nothing short of a miracle that she didn’t end up getting a horrible infection from all the cuts, or breaking her legs and being wheelchair bound….
I needed to make sure that nothing would prevent her from living her best life.
After all, what were big brothers for?
I drove as fast as I could to the nearest hospital. As I maneuvered my way across the busy streets, I took a few glances at Lily to make sure she was okay.
“You need to slow down.” Lily whined. “You’re going to make me sick with how fast you’re driving!”
“I’m sorry.” I chuckled to try and lighten the mood. “I’m just trying to get you to the local hospital before their emergency room fills up. You know how busy hospitals can get.”
“Wait, why can’t you just take me to the other one?”
I kept my eyes ahead on the road but could sense her discomfort and hesitation. “What do you mean? That hospital is like an hour away. We don’t have the time if your legs are giving you that much trouble today.”
“But the staff there are so much nicer and gentle with me.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t think we need to waste time with going far out for something doctors and nurses are just as capable. You’ll be okay.”
Once we arrived at the hospital’s emergency department, I pushed her inside.
“Victor, please… Just take me back to the house. I’ll be okay.”

“We’re already here, Lily.” I gave her a puzzled look. “If everything comes back okay, then I’ll take you back to your apartment.”
Why was she so insistent on wanting to leave? She made it sound so serious earlier. I didn’t want to take any chances anyway.
She must have forgotten that I’m much more stubborn than she is.
Luckily, despite the amount of people that were in the waiting room, it didn’t take too long for the receptionist to pet us checked in. She was even able to get us into an examination room almost right away. The doctor came in not too long after.
“Good afternoon, I’m your nurse’s assistant for today.” He smile was warm. “I’m here to grab your vitals to make

Roberts now! I couldn’t just sit around and wait any longer
As I turned my head to the left, I saw Dr. Roberts had stepped out of another room. I rushed for him immediately.
“Please tell me you have some good news for me. Did Lily’s x–rays come back okay?” I asked urgently.
While I had hoped that everything was going to be alright, the doctor’s sudden hesitation made me feel sick. Was her injury more serious than I thought? What did they find in her x–rays?
After a few moments of agonizing silence, the doctor finally responded.
“That’s the thing…” Dr. Roberts’s tone was uncertain; almost confused. “Her x–rays came back normal. Actually, there’s nothing wrong with Miss Lily’s legs at all.”
