Bruce did not end up in prison because he went mad. Instead, he was put into a mental asylum.
This was not a good thing for him either. After all, he was going to spend the rest of his life living a barely humane life.
Aaron swore he would not let Bruce off the hook easily. Thus, he arranged for round–the- clock guards at the mental asylum. Even if Bruce were to heal one day, he had to stay in the asylum to repent for his mistakes.
Aaron was sweet to me. He was with me at every hour of the day and had said he would make up for the time when he was in a coma.
Eventually, I became pregnant. Twins, from the doctor’s report. Aaron cried and smiled altogether. He smiled because he was overjoyed we would have a family of our own. He cried because he knew how much I would suffer during pregnancy.
He immediately got busy preparing the wedding of the century, saying he wanted the whole world to witness our happiness. He wanted the whole world to keep an eye on him too, that should he ever mistreat me someday, the whole world would hunt him down.
He was worried that I would be too tired, so he took on all the aspects of the wedding. He just told me to relax and prepare to be the most gorgeous bride on earth.
The day of the wedding was a perfect spring day. Everyone came to celebrate our matrimony. The happiness I felt that day continued every day after the wedding.
Seven months later, we greeted our twins–a boy and a girl. They were extraordinarily
adorable.
“Thank you, Nancy,” cried Aaron. “Thank you for giving me a family. A family with you.”
Ever since I fell pregnant, Aaron became much more emotional. He cried often, often feeling his happiness was an unreal experience. He was afraid he would wake up one day and find out that it was all just a dream.
He said when he was in his coma, he dreamt that Bruce and I had gotten married and had a family together.
He lost all hope of living. He wanted to end his life, but then he heard my voice telling him not to give up. He said that I was waiting for him to come around to thank him. He did everything he could to wake up, but he could not no matter how hard he tried.
Even after he no longer heard me, my words clung to him.
“Nancy, it was because of you that I held on for so long.”
