Aaron’s air of authority and regalness made Bruce and Kerry retreat in fear. He attracted the attention of everyone there too.
“Aaron is still so good–looking after being in a coma all these years.”
“If I knew any better, I would’ve married him no matter what! What a missed opportunity.”
“Who would’ve thought he’d come around?”
Kerry was stunned too. She shyly gazed at Aaron with admiration.
Aaron ignored all their gazes. He pulled me into his arms and locked eyes with me. All we could see was each other.
In fact, we knew each other before Aaron got into a coma. We went to the same high school. Aaron was the jock of the school and had many admirers. Every time I saw him, someone would be confessing their feelings to him back then.
Once, when he got harassed by a girl, he suddenly pointed at me through the crowd and said he had feelings for me for a long time. We had never spoken to each other before, and I could sense he was using me as a cover, so I went along with it.
When someone asked if Aaron and I were together, I often replied vaguely too.
Gradually, the rumor that Aaron and I were together began to float around in school. I was the belle of the school, and my family was well–off too. In a way, Aaron and I were very compatible. Thanks to the rumor, many of my pursuers backed off too.
My high school life was much more peaceful then
I wanted to thank Aaron in my college days, but I never got the chance to. When I heard about him once more, he had already gone abroad.
The following time when I heard about him, it was the accident when he returned to the country, rendering him in a vegetative state.
Thanking him became a regret I never got to do.
