I didn’t flinch. My eyes stayed locked on Brenda. That reaction of hers–yeah, it confirmed it. She knew. David was her biological father.
No wonder she fought so hard in my last life to steal my place. She wasn’t just trying to take what I had–she wanted what she thought was hers.
But Mom was back now, and earlier than before. So how could they still think their little scheme would work? Unless…there was something I hadn’t figured out yet.

Chapter 6
“See? She’s scared now! Brenda never even gets mad, and Claire thought she could keep playing victim.”
“Get out of here, Claire! You’re making everyone sick!”
I tried brushing off the hands clawing at me, but they clung tighter, desperate to show off for Brenda. Pathetic.
She strutted away, her little entourage trailing behind, but I wasn’t about to let her have the last word.
“Brenda!” I yelled. “You’re just the maid’s daughter, and you’ve never even met your real father! Who’s this ‘wealthy father‘ you’re bragging about? Or is it just your mom throwing herself at my dad?“!
That stopped her dead in her tracks. She whirled around, her face twisted with fury.
“Your mom is the shameless one! After today-”
She froze mid–sentence, hand flying to her mouth like she’d said too much.
My stomach sank. A bad feeling swept over me, heavy and suffocating.
They had another plan. I could feel it. And Mom–she was alone at the villa. Was she in danger?
The thought of Mom alone at the villa snapped me into action. I shook off the students clinging to me and tried to push past them, but they kept blocking me.
Brenda stood off to the side, smirking like she’d already won.
“See that, Claire? This is what happens when you cross me! A pathetic servant like you dares to sic a dog on me and spread lies? Of course, everyone’s going to help me teach you a lesson!”
Fuming, I ducked out of the crowd, yanking out my phone to warn Mom to get out of the house. But just as I unlocked it, Brenda swooped in and snatched it right out of my hands.
