Claire, don’t get cocky! Dad told me that since you ruined my birthday party, he’s going to make it up to me by donating a new building to the school–in my name!
“If Dad’s willing to donat
heiress!”
a whole building for me, it’s obvious I’m the real Sinclair
I sneered. “Oh, Brend
been squatting in my house
I in my house all these years, don’t know who actually runs things?
“Well, today, I’ll make sure that building never happens.”
e sure that building never happens.
and you
you still
Without hesitation, I pulled out my phone and shot Mom a quick message: [Lock down Dad’s accounts. Now.]
Her reply came back instantly: [Got it.]
Grinning, I turned back to Brenda. “I heard the donation process is already underway. That’s tough for you, isn’t it?
“I wonder what the school will do when they find out the maid’s daughter, bought into my family, tried to pull off fraud. Think they’ll expel you?”
The room froze for a beat, then erupted in hushed murmurs.
“No wonder Claire had the guts to sic her dog on Brenda. She is the real heiress.”
“But didn’t we see Mr. Sinclair drop Brenda off this morning?”
Brenda’s face swung between red and ghostly pale as the whispers spread like wildfire. She fumbled with her phone, trying to call David.
No matter how many times she dialed, the line stayed dead. The murmurs only grew louder, and tears started to spill from her eyes.
I didn’t feel an ounce of pity. Not after what they’d done to me in my previous life. Instead, I leaned in, twisting the knife.
“Can’t get through to Daddy? Maybe try Mommy.” I let my smirk widen. “Oh, right. She just got fired–and slapped a few times. I’m sure she has a moment to pick up.”
Brenda spun to face me,
to face me, her glare sharp enough to cut glass. “Claire, I’ve always treated you like a sister. Why would you keep slandering me like this?”
Before I could deliver a comeback, a voice cut through the tension.
“Brenda. Step outside.”
Mr. Moore, the vice principal, stood at the doorway, his face grim.
I raised an eyebrow. Back then, David had bought her way into this school. But now? With a fraud scandal hanging over her, there was no way she’d squirm out of this one.
