Chapter 11
Argue?
Why would Yvette argue with a doctor for no reason?
Yvette looked over in confusion, only to see Sean’s retreating back as he stepped out of the car.
He was clearly sulking as he did not bother to open the door for her. Instead, he strode away and greeted the person at the door.
Yvette might not be the nicest to her brother, but she was still nervous around strangers–especially when the stranger was a doctor.
Her family knew that she was afraid of doctors.
Therefore, she just sat in the car and watched them, hoping to delay the inevitable.
Sean chatted with his friend for a while before realizing that Yvette was still in the car.
Glaring, he marched back and stood in front of the car, beckoning impatiently for her to get out and greet his friend.
Yvette took a deep breath, schooled her expression, and was just about to open the door when the door was swung open from the outside.
She looked up and stared into a pair of deep eyes.
Some emotion swelled up in those eyes. The coldness faded into something warmer and more approachable.
“Hello, Ms. Giles. Nice to meet you. I’m Sean’s friend, Zephyr Turner.”
Yvette froze for a beat before recovering. Instinctively, she put out her injured arm to shake his hand.
Zephyr looked at the bandaged hand in front of him. After a moment of thought, he reached out further and took her forearm instead of her hand.
Startled by his action, Yvette looked down and realized her blunder. She blushed.
Just as she was trying to find the words to alleviate the awkwardness, Zephyr held the door open and said politely, “You’re injured–be careful when getting out.”
Yvette knew what he was trying to do. Quickly, she got out of the car and retracted her arm hastily. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
Sean couldn’t help himself. He burst into laughter at the sight of Yvette’s red ears.
The other two turned to stare at him. Quickly, he covered his mouth and pretended like nothing had happened. “My work here is done. I’ll leave you two to it. I’m off for a spot of golf. Have
fun!”
With that, he strode off to the golf course behind the villa.
What kind of brother would leave their sister alone with a man she’d just met?
Yvette ground her teeth and cursed Sean silently.
Zephyr seemed entirely at ease. After closing the car door, he gestured politely for her to enter the villa.
Still slightly unnerved, Yvette did not dare to look up as she followed him into the house, lagging a few steps behind.
In the living room, she settled herself on the couch while Zephyr went to the second floor and brought down a large box.
Yvette tactfully began to remove the bandages on her arm. However, since she had to do it with her left hand, she was unable to undo the knot.
Seeing that sweat was beginning to form on her forehead out of nervousness, Zephyr said gently, “Here, allow me.”
Yvette glanced up at him and nodded after a moment of hesitation.
After getting her consent, Zephyr crouched beside her and rested her hand on the armrest. He slowly undid the knot and unraveled the bandages, revealing the jagged wound that spanned almost seven inches.
Zephyr frowned when he saw that.
He looked up at Yvette, his eyes filled with concern. “How did you get such a severe injury?”
“I was hit by a car. I fell and scraped my arm against the curb.”
