Chapter 14
Sean was reluctantly peeling oranges for Yvette under Elizabeth’s orders when Kade called him.
His hands were sticky with juice, so he told Yvette to take his phone out for him.
Yvette’s smile froze briefly when she saw the name on the screen, but she quickly composed herself.
She tapped the answer button and held the phone up to Sean’s ear as she took a bite of orange.
The pulp burst under her teeth, filling her mouth with the rich and sweet aroma.
How sweet.
Kade said something on the other end of the call that made Sean turn with a frown, a strange look on his face as he looked at her.
Unfazed by his strange expression, Yvette grabbed a few napkins and wiped his hands. Then, she shoved the phone into his hands.
Just as Sean was about to question her, the butler, Tom Hiddle, suddenly came in with Zephyr.
Elizabeth quickly stood up to greet him when she saw him.
After a few pleasantries, Zephyr came over and sat down beside Yvette.
With his soon–to–be brother–in–law present, Sean couldn’t ask what he wanted to ask.
Shrugging it off, he walked outside with the phone and, half–jokingly, said, “Kade, what do you want with my sister? She’s busy and doesn’t have time to entertain you.”
Was she really busy, or just pretending?
Unsure, Kade’s voice grew colder. “How’s she? Was she hurt badly?”
Hearing this, Sean’s eyes flashed in surprise. “You knew she was hurt? Why didn’t you tell me? I would’ve brought her back myself if I had known. We could’ve grabbed a drink together too.” Kade was too preoccupied with the breakup. He couldn’t care less about grabbing a drink with Sean. Pressing a hand to his forehead, he steered the conversation back on topic. “Is she really busy? I need to ask her something.”
Sean turned to glance at Yvette, just in time to see Zephyr handing her a peeled orange. He smiled indulgently. “Yeah, she’s busy. Would I lie to you?”
Kade’s heart sank when he heard the clear laughter in Sean’s voice.
He knew that that was just an excuse. Sean doted on Yvette, so he would definitely brush him off if Yvette said that she didn’t want to talk to him.
He was frustrated, but he couldn’t reveal too much to Sean.
Suppressing his emotions, he began looking up flight tickets to Shandra City.
On the other end of the call, Sean seemed to recall something and quickly called out to him. “Are you free next week? We’re having a family celebration. Would you like to come? Harold and Isaac are coming too.”
This was the perfect excuse for him to fly over. Stopping what he was doing, Kade asked for more details casually. “When? Let me check my schedule.”
“Next Friday. You have to come even if you’re busy, or I’ll deal with you next time we meet!”
Five days. That wasn’t too long.
Kade agreed to go. Before hanging up, he insisted, “Don’t forget to tell Yvette I called. Tell her to call me back.”
“Alright, alright. I’ll tell her. She’s really busy right now, so I can’t guarantee that she’ll call you back!”
Wasn’t she injured? She shouldn’t be working. What was she busy with?
Kade was musing it over when he suddenly heard Elizabeth’s voice. “Sean, we’re going to the bridal shop now. Come on!” Bridal shop? Was someone getting married?
