Chapter 17
It wasn’t until now that Kade finally discovered the true reason behind Charlotte’s insistence on ending their relationship eight years ago. It was all for the sake of money
He had given her his all, yet in the end, his love couldn’t even compete with the millions of dollars she received as a breakup settlement
He couldn’t even figure out his own emotions at the moment. All he could do was let out a cynical laugh, not knowing if he was laughing at himself for being so foolish or at her for being so calculating
Upon seeing his best friend in such a state, Wren realized that Kade had probably given up on Charlotte for good. He then sighed deeply, took out a video receding and started playing in
In the hospital ward, the camera focused on Brody, the one who had been knocked unconscious at the bar.
After being threatened, his face was full of fear as he hesitated before speaking to the camera about the events that happened back then “1–It was Charlotte who told me to mess with Ms. Giles, saying that she was nothing but trouble and needed to be taught a lesson-
As the video reached its halfway point, Kade couldn’t bear to look at it any longer. He grabbed the camera and hurled it against the wall
His face, initially flushed from anger, gradually lost its color, leaving behind a pale, despairing expression.
As a result, there was a long, uncomfortable silence in the room.
It was so quiet for so long that Wren, drifting off in his thoughts, nearly dozed off when Kade’s hoarse voice broke the silence, saying, “Let’s arrange a gettering and invite everyte to 1- no one is to be excluded”
After picking out the wedding dress, both families discreetly made their exits, leaving the evening to the soon–to–be–married couple.
Upon looking at the breathtaking sunset, Yvette was in high spirits and suggested going for a walk
There were a lot of people by the riverbank, so Zephyr stayed close to her right side, protecting her from people accidentally bumping into her injury.
There were countless stalls selling toys and snacks lining the street. Zephyr noticed Yvette constantly glancing at the sunflower–shaped balloon bouquet, so he quickly bought it and handed it to her.
The surrounding children noticed and looked over enviously, murmuring excitedly to their friends.
“Why does a grown–up like her still like balloons?”
Upon hearing the children’s remarks, Yvette blushed and tried to hide the balloon bouquet behind her.
And to everyone’s surprise, Zephyr bought several more balloon bouquets and handed them out to the three children, saying, “Although you’re children and she’s a grown–up, everyone.com have their own flower balloons if they like it.”
Those children thanked him shyly, their faces flushed with delight as they ran off laughing with their new balloons.
Zephyr then turned around and noticed Yvette looking at him, her eyes glimmering with a gentle warmth.
“What’s the matter?”
Yvette snapped out of her thoughts, shaking her head with a faint smile. “It’s been a long time since I’ve heard such an innocent conversation. I guess I’ve been a grown–up for quite some
time now.”
“I guess we should make it a point to go out more often together. It’ll definitely spark your creativity and help you with your comics. You know, everyone has been looking forward to your new comic after all.”
Upon hearing him casually mention her work, Yvette was taken aback. “You’re actually aware that I’m a comic artist? Have you read any of my work before?”
Zephyr bluntly admitted to it, saying, “I’ve seen them before. They’re very impressive.”
Although it was a rather simple compliment, Yvette was still moved by it, especially since it came from Zephyr.
It was the first time someone close to her had shown recognition for the dream she was striving toward
Yvette then looked up and saw the sincerity in his face, which was just inches away from hers, her conviction deepening even further.
“Have you read the latest comic that I just released?”
Her question threw him off guard, leaving Zephyr momentarily stumped
Yet, in the end, he decided to be honest, saying, “I’ve read it.”
It was the answer she had expected, yet it still made Yvette breathe a sigh of relief. She watched the sun dip below the horizon as the evening breeze tousled her hair. “It’s already getting so late. How about we grab a cup of coffee? I believe you have the right to know the real ending of that comic.”
