Chapter 20
It was already Thursday night, yet Kade still hadn’t gotten a call from Yvette. He was growing restless, so he drank in silence, his gaze occasionally drifting to the phone screen.
Upon sensing his distress, Wren tried to console him, saying, “Yvie’s just throwing a tantrum. If you go and apologize to her, I’m sure everything will be fine. It’s pretty obvious that she’s really into you—everyone even knows about it. She wouldn’t really want to break up with you.
“I bet she had her brother invite you to the wedding to give you a chance to win her back.”
Upon hearing that, Kade finally felt a bit better. He occasionally checked the time, and as soon as it turned 9:00 pm, he got up and made his way to the airport.
As he drove Kade to the airport, Wren cast a glance at the beautifully wrapped gift boxes in the back seat.
He then remarked with a hint of bitterness, “It’s just your university roommate’s wedding, right? Do you really have to go all out? You even brought out your grandfather’s most treasured possession for this. You’d better treat me the same when I get married!”
Upon hearing that, Kade merely gave him a sidelong glance and tossed him the bead bracelet.
“What do you mean, roommate? He’s my future brother–in–law! It’s only right to give him some nice gifts, especially since we’re going to become family soon–after I propose to Yvie. Oh, look at that pathetic face of yours!”
“You’re already regarding him as your brother–in–law, huh? Yvie hasn’t even agreed to your proposal yet! You’ve basically been seeing Sean’s sister in secret, so you’re probably going to be in big trouble as soon as you get to Shandra City!”
Upon hearing Wren’s teasing, Kade’s downcast mood finally lightened. He had made up his mind that this to Shandra City wasn’t just about congratulating Sean on his wedding but also about meeting the Giles family and disclosing his relationship with Yvette.
He would have been more than willing to endure ten beatings if it meant Yvette would forgive him and accept his hand in marriage.
An outdoor wedding was being held at the grandest hotel in Shandra City.
At 9:00 am, the hotel manager was notified to relocate one of the wedding guest’s nameplates to the table near the entryway and reinforce security at the venue.
At 10:00 am, all the guests started to pour into the venue, filling the spacious lawn with a lively and energetic atmosphere.
Having checked into the hotel he had booked early yesterday morning, Kade rested for the night before meeting up with two of his university roommates, Adam Hoffman and Camden Cooper, whom he hadn’t seen in years. They then head to the wedding venue together.
As they walked into the venue, the three of them chatted about their plans for after the wedding.
Having ascertained their names, the waiter courteously led them to their assigned seating.
It took only moments to reach their assigned seats. Upon noticing the distance from the main stage and the constant flow of people around them, Kade exclaimed angrily, “What an asshole! How could Sean drag us all the way here and seat us in the back? What a dick move!”
Adam and Camden agreed wholeheartedly, chiming in with complaints of their own.
“It’s so far away from the stage! I bet we won’t be able to see the bride’s face later. Why did we even bother showing up here? We could have just watched the live stream of the whole wedding from our hotel rooms! I bet we’d get a better view than being here!”
“You’re absolutely right! If I get hold of that punk, I’ll make sure to kick him a couple of times.”
Yet, despite their complaints, they still took their seats.
After taking their seats, Kade took a few photos with his phone and sent them to Sean with a message attached to it, asking, “It’s so far away from the main stage; Sean. Is this how you treat your best friend?”
It appeared that Sean was occupied since there was no response for a while.
Kade, fully aware that Sean was tied up today, didn’t urge him for a reply. He instead took his time sipping red wine and appreciating the tasteful surroundings.
He couldn’t help but sigh inwardly, thinking that it had been years since he’d last seen Sean, the carefree playboy. Yet, he had unexpectedly developed an appreciation for the finer things. From the wine, the decor, and the overall atmosphere, it all seemed so unlike his usual character.
A minute before the wedding began, Kade’s phone on the table chimed.
Upon picking up the phone, Kade noticed that it was a message from Sean, stating, “Huh? I personally handled your seating arrangements. I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to be seated at the table closest to the main stage.”
