Chapter 24
Upon hearing Kade’s apology, Yvette replied calmly, “I’m sorry too.”
If she had decided on something, she never allowed herself to turn back.
And when it came to love, she would always be willing to forgive and give them a second chance. Yet, her relationship with Kade was a mistake from the very beginning. It had taken her eight years to realize that, and there was no way she would repeat that mistake.
She then raised her head, met his gaze, and said firmly, “You never truly loved me, Kade. You only loved the part of me that reminded you of Charlotte. I ended things with you, not because I was upset or hoping for reconciliation but because I’ve fallen out of love with you.
“You’ve once told me that liars don’t deserve forgiveness, Kade. Do you still remember saying that? You’ve lied to me for six years. I have no interest in forgiving you or spending my time resenting you. I just want to end this for good and leave it all in the past.”
Her words, sharp as knives, left Kade’s heart in tatters. He shook his head over and over again, refusing to accept such an outcome.
Yvette didn’t even bother to spare Kade a glance. She turned away, looking at the figure in the distance who was patiently waiting for her. “I have a family now and a new career to look forward to. I even have a loving husband who is currently planning our honeymoon. I have a bright future ahead of me, Kade.
“If you feel any guilt at all, then leave Shandra City, and don’t ever let me see you again. Let’s just sever all ties and disappear from each other’s lives.”
Having said her piece, a faint smile crept across her face. She then walked down the steps, never once glancing back.
It was a warm summer evening, and the air still carried the remnants of the day’s warmth. Zephyr walked hand in hand with Yvette along the dusky asphalt road.
A warm, gentle breeze gently lifted Yvette’s floral dress, while the treetops rippled in layers of deep green, like waves on a sea.
It was the first time Yvette had realized how beautiful summer could be.
As she glanced at the streetlights flickering ahead, Yvette turned to Zephyr with a cheeky smile and asked, “How much further is it? You’re not going to tire me out on our first day of marriage, right?”
A smile spread across Zephyr’s face as he pointed toward the villa, 30 feet away from them.
A fiery red caught Yvette’s eye as she looked up.
It was deep into the night, and the lighting was dim. It was hard for her to make out what they were, so she asked, “What are those?”
Zephyr didn’t bother telling her what those things were. He simply grabbed her hand and pulled her along, urging her into a light jog.
After reaching their destination and opening the door, Yvette was greeted by a vibrant garden full of royal poinciana trees in full bloom. Her eyes widened in delight as she gazed up at the sea of blossoms overhead.
A gust of wind swept through, sending red petals swirling in the air before they gently fell around her. At that moment, she felt as though she had stepped into a dream.
Zephyr’s eyes never left her as she lifted her skirt and danced in circles, humming a melody he had never heard before.
After she’d had her fun, Zephyr pulled Yvette into his embrace, gently removing the flowers from her hair.
Yvette looked up and caught a glimpse of her own reflection in his bright, clear eyes. She then waved her hand in front of him, interrupting his thoughts. “What’s on your mind?”
“I’m wondering whether I should have a relaxing day tomorrow or if I should take you home to try my mother’s cooking. I’m also wondering if there’s still anything we need at home or if you’ll adapt well to living together. I’m also- ”
After listening to him go on and on, Yvette felt a bit overwhelmed. She stood on tiptoes and playfully pinched his cheek, saying, “It’s such a romantic setting, so can’t you at least think of something else other than that?”
“In that case, may I have the honor of kissing my beautiful wife?”
