Chapter 28
Grandma’s health was deteriorating, so the Schultzes decided to throw a grand birthday celebration to lift her spirits.
Shane attended an auction with Amber. He wanted to buy an antique as a gift for Grandma.
Amber leaned in close to Shane and whispered, “I heard Silverstone Gallery gathered a lot of good items.”
Shane, having not slept well in recent days, looked fatigued. His eyes lacked their usual brightness. “Is that so? I’ll buy anything you like for you.”
“You’re so good to me, Shane.” Amber said this while attempting to nestle closer into Shane’s
arms.
Shane caught her arm firmly and gave her a warning with his eyes.
“What’s the matter? It’s dark here. No one will see us,” Amber whispered.
Shane’s voice was stern. “Enough.”
“Shane…” Amber, now impatient, rubbed against his arm.
“The auction is about to start. See if there’s anything you like.” Shane used an excuse to divert
her attention.
I saw someone from a distance take a photo of Shane and Amber being intimate.
Who was it? This wasn’t the first time. Over the past few days, I had noticed someone following Shane.
Whenever he was with Amber, this person would take pictures. Amber didn’t even know that she had been photographed countless times.
Who could it be? Was it a rival trying to ruin Shane? But no matter who it was, if they exposed Shane and Amber’s affair in my place, they would be my ally.
Silverstone Gallery was an underground auction venue where rape and exotic treasures could be found, whether they were above board or not.
I had visited this place before, but today, for some reason, I felt a strange unease. Soon, I understood why I felt this way.
The first auction item appeared on the large screen. It was a precious rosary bracelet–the
Sacred Ember Rosary.
The masked auctioneer raised his hand to introduce the item.
The sandalwood rosary bracelet held two Sacred Ember beads, blessed by a religious master. It
was said to ward off disaster and evil, bringing good fortune to its wearer.
When Amber heard about its ability to ward off evil, she quickly whispered to Shane, “Shane, you’ve been feeling uneasy lately. Why don’t you buy that bracelet?”
Shane’s gaze fixed on the rosary bracelet. For some reason, a strange compulsion stirred within him to bid on it.
After the auctioneer finished introducing the rosary bracelet, many wealthy attendees seemed
interested.
Some were intrigued by it for its aesthetic value, while others were drawn by the superstitious. belief in its protective properties.
A beautiful woman in a bodycon dress held a tray in her hands. The moment she lifted the black cloth, I was suddenly drawn in by an overwhelming force of attraction.
I shouted instinctively. I didn’t know what awaited me, but suddenly everything went dark, and my body seemed to vanish.
When I opened my eyes again, I saw the dimly lit VIP section, where the auction paddle was raised. Even Shane and Amber were there, below the stage.
What was happening? My perspective had shifted. I was no longer trapped beside Shane! I looked around, and there, so close, was the woman in the bodycon dress.
Then, I realized something. I had been absorbed into the Sacred Ember Rosary! A religious master’s blessings…
A sudden thought surged in my mind. Could my ashes be inside the beads? Was that why my soul had merged with them? Was my body completely gone?
At that moment, I was utterly stunned.
I heard someone bid 30 million dollars for the rosary bracelet. It wasn’t a sky–high price because not the entire bracelet was made of Sacred Ember beads.
When I was picked up, I saw a hand with distinct knuckles. It was followed by Shane’s eyes, filled with a complicated expression.
His fingers brushed over the beads, and it felt like he was touching my body. The sensation. was revolting. I didn’t understand why he looked at me like that.
The next moment, he placed me on his wrist, and I could feel his warm body.
