Chapter 30
The snowflakes danced outside the car window, but Shane paid no attention to the scene. His expression was clouded with deep thoughts.
He seemed both expectant and fearful, checking his phone repeatedly before locking it each
time.
It wasn’t until the car reached his home and he saw the lights on that he finally relaxed.
The moment the car came to a stop, he hurriedly got out and rushed toward the front door. I watched him adjust his clothes before slowly opening the door. His usual cold expression
returned to his face.
As he took off his shoes, he called my name. “Allison, you finally decided to come back after all this time? Do you know these days-”
The living room lights were on, but it wasn’t me waiting for him. It was Elliott.
Shane looked up, startled, meeting Elliott’s gaze. “Dad, what are you doing here?”
“The Lundberg residence has Damon. I came to talk to you. Is Allison not home yet?” Elliott asked with a frown. It was clear that my disappearance hadn’t raised any concern among them.
It actually made sense. I had grown up with Shane. Whenever we had disagreements, I was always the one to make amends. To them, even if I ran away from the wedding, it was just a small squabble.
They assumed I would return when I’d had enough.
Not wanting to show any weakness, Shane quickly found an excuse. “Tomorrow is her grandma’s birthday. She wouldn’t miss it. She must be with the Schultzes by now.”
Elliott casually lit a cigarette. He exhaled smoke as he spoke in a nonchalant tone, “When she gets back, you’d better comfort her. Get her pregnant soon, too. Your grandpa’s regained his senses, and he’s been getting close to that bastard.”
“Doesn’t Damon always hate Grandpa?” Shane’s expression hardened.
Elliott smirked with a hint of mockery. “Hate comes after profit. He rushed back here as soon as your grandpa felt a bit better. If it wasn’t for the family fortune, what was it for? I’ve heard your grandpa is already making arrangements for his marriage.”
“Marriage?” Shane’s face paled, and he rushed toward the couch. “Has his partner been.
decided?”
“Either the daughter from the Hartman family or the Fuller family,”
Elliott answered.
The Hartman and Fuller families were both incredibly powerful, on par with the Lundbergs.
Though the Schultzes were wealthy, they didn’t have the same long–standing legacy. If it
weren’t for me and Shane being childhood sweethearts, Shane would likely be set to marry someone from one of these families.
Damon already had his own successful career abroad. With the backing of a prestigious family. through a marriage alliance, he would easily leave Shane far behind.
Shane gritted his teeth. “He’s a bastard. He’s not worthy of such a match!”
Elliott glanced at him dismissively. “That’s true ten years ago, but do you know how much Damon’s company is worth now?”
“How much?”
“100 billion dollars! And it’s still rising!”
Shane’s body slumped back heavily onto the couch. He had known Damon was doing well but never imagined it had grown to such a scale.
100 billion dollars. That was only a little less than Lundberg Group.
The Lundberg family’s wealth and influence had been built over generations of careful accumulation, securing their prestigious position and second place in the domestic real estate industry.
But Damon had started from scratch. He built his empire in just over a decade. If things continued at this rate, surpassing the Lundberg family was only a matter of time.
Once Anthony handed the Lundberg Group to Damon, his wealth would skyrocket, and he could rank among the top ten richest people globally.
“H–How could this be?” Shane looked stunned, lost in thought. His face was filled with anxiety.
“You’ve done stupid things lately that have angered your grandpa. He already feels indebted to Damon. If he takes this chance to hand Lundberg Group over to him-”
