Chapter 38

After the family’s repeated urging, Grandma quickly touched up her makeup. Then, she allowed Rebecca to push her wheelchair out

Ally should be here by now; we shouldn’t keep her waiting.”

Rebecca teased, You’ve only got eyes for Ms. Allison. There are a bunch of big shots here today.”

A hint of arrogance flickered across Grandma’s face. My granddaughter is far more important than they are. Where’s that stock transfer document I requested?”

Mrs. Schultz Senior, it’s all set,Rebecca replied. We can finalize the transfer tomorrow. Your decision to transfer all the shares to Ms. Allison might lead to further family disputes.”

They don’t give a damn about Ally. If they don’t love her, why shouldn’t I? She is married now, and she’s got her own life

As for my shares, what business is it of theirs? You saw how Amber toyed with those fools today. What do you think Ally will end up with? I should transfer my assets to her while I’m still alive.”

Ms. Allison is so lucky to have a grandma who cares for her so much.”

It was heartbreaking to hear their conversation. Grandma was so wonderful, but unfortunately, I could no longer be on the receiving end of her kindness

Rebecca pushed the wheelchair through a shortcut toward the banquet hall. Before we got close, I heard a deep and cold voice

You haven’t found her yet? It’s been days! How can a person just disappear?”

Mr. Lundberg, we’ve checked every possible place. Could it be”

The voice trailed off as they saw Grandma and Rebecca approaching and immediately fell silent

I sensed something was off. What were they looking for? Could he be looking for me? That seemed unlikely. I had only met him a few times

Shane hadn’t paid any attention to me, so how could Damon be searching everywhere for me? I must be overthinking this

A thick blanket of snow fell from the sky, creating a dense net under the streetlights. In his black suit, Damon was adorned with a sprinkling of snow on his dark hair and shoulders

His sharp eyes were as cold as ever, only softening slightly when he saw Grandma. He called out with respect. Mrs. Schultz Senior.”

Grandma studied him for a moment, somewhat uncertain. You arefrom the Lundbergs.”

Anyone meeting him for the first time would immediately associate him with his status as an illegitimate child

I’m Damon Lundberg. I’ve come to wish you a happy birthday, Mrs. Schultz Senior. Jose!”

Jose, behind the wheelchair, held a wooden box and approached Grandma. He bowed slightly and said, Mrs. Schultz Senior, this is a rare and precious ageold panacea. It’s great for replenishing your health.”

The Schultzes weren’t short on precious items, but ageold panaceas were rare. So, Grandma didn’t decline the gift

That’s very thoughtful of you,she said

Rebecca quickly stepped forward to take the gift. Thank you, Mr. Lundberg.”

It’s cold and slippery outside. Mr. Lundberg, you should head to the hall to warm up.”

Grandma’s attitude toward him was not as hostile as toward Shane

I’m not fond of crowds. I came only to pay respects to you, Mrs. Schultz Senior. Since I’ve already delivered my gift and wishes, I think I’ll take my leave now.”

Damon made a few polite remarks before continuing. By the way, I didn’t see Ms. Allison in the hall earlier. I heard she left the wedding and hasn’t returned to the Schultz residence. I presume she is here, taking care of you.”

She sent me a gift today, but she is not here yet. I guess something must have come up,”

Grandma said

Rebecca said, Ms. Allison has always been attentive and caring toward Mrs. Schultz Senior. She always makes it back for her birthday. She should be arriving any minute now. Mr. Lundberg, since you’re already here, why not have some cake before leaving?”

Damon, who had intended to leave, changed his mind for some reason. Then I’ll stay a while

The two of them, one after the other in wheelchairs, went to the main hall. Damon, being introverted, didn’t mingle with others and had Jose push him to a dimly lit corner

Looking at his gloomy yet handsome face, I was suspicious. I wondered if he had been trying to gather information about me earlier

Although we didn’t know each other, he had asked about my whereabouts several times. Could this be a coincidence
