Chapter 41
As for Shane, he was truly foolish. We once shared the same bed, yet he made a conclusion based on the woman’s vaguely similar side profile and the mole on her chest.
Was he stupid, or had I always been such a shameless person to him all along?
After hearing these unpleasant words, I slowly backed away from the crowd. However, I heard a man’s voice in a corner.
“Mr. Lundberg, shall we do something about it? Ms. Schultz is clearly not in Gildford, so that person is obviously not her.”
“No need. That would be fanning the flames at this crucial moment. Everyone would shift their attention from her to me. If word of Allison being involved with Damon got out, do you think that sounds better than what we have now
Damon sighed. “Gossip can be quite terrifying. Let’s go. She probably won’t drop by at all.”
Stunned, I stayed rooted at the same spot. How did Damon know that I wasn’t in Gildford? Unless he already asked someone to look into my whereabouts earlier.
But why did Damon do things that my husband didn’t even bother doing? No wonder Damon kept testing me in front of Shane and Grandma,
Was Damon worried about me? That would make him the only one who cared about my reputation.
I closed my eyes as I remembered how Amber triggered me to have a miscarriage. Blood was on every part of my lower body that day as I crawled to the doorway. Before I fainted, I seemed to have seen a pair of high–end leather shoes on wheelchair pedals.
It was Damon who quickly arranged for me to undergo surgery for my miscarriage. Although I didn’t manage to keep my child, the surgery helped minimize the harm done to my body.
When the doctor asked for a family member to sign for the surgery outside the operating. room, I faintly heard a man’s alluring voice.
It was Damon. I met him again half a month before I got married. He spoke to me with a frosty expression. “I can help you call off this marriage if you’re unwilling to get married.”
At that moment, all I could think about was the extreme idea of taking revenge on Shane and Amber on my wedding day. Hence, I rejected Damon without hesitation.
“Shane and I are childhood sweethearts, Uncle Damon. Marrying him is my lifelong wish.”
He maintained a chilly expression, making it hard for me to tell what he was actually thinking.
I stood there for a long time until my legs felt numb. Damon finally answered, “I wish you two a happy life.”
I watched him leave. That day, he went abroad. Even so, I still sent a wedding invitation and some souvenirs to him. However, he did not turn up on my wedding day.
I didn’t have much contact with Damon. Why was he so anxious looking for me after I went missing? Even my family didn’t care.
If I’m not wrong, Damon didn’t just drop by today to wish Grandma a happy birthday. He wanted to confirm whether I’d be there.
Was he worried about me?
The noisy crowd also gradually calmed down as a maid brought out a large cake with more than ten layers. Everyone surrounded Grandma and began to congratulate her, casting the matter of the footage aside.
I saw many fake people in the flickering candlelight. Only Grandma remained worried. I walked toward Grandma’s side and began to sing a birthday song, which she could not hear.
“Grandma, make a wish.” Grandma shut her eyes and put her hands together in prayer, looking very earnest.
She spoke in a very low voice. “I pray that things will go smoothly for Ally, and she’ll always be safe and free of troubles.”
She blew out the candles. I gazed at her with teary eyes before whispering in her ear.
“Grandma, please live well for me. May you live long and have a healthy life!”
