Chapter 77
Shane worked until two at night when Devon brought some supper.
It was his favorite crab risotto with some warm pastries. He only took a bite and stopped.
“What is it, Mr. Lundberg? Is it cold? Should I warm it up again?”
“No…”
Shane stared at the colorful plate of risotto before pressing his lips together. “Ally knew about my stomach problems. She’d often make comforting risotto for me. I haven’t tasted her cooking in such a long time.”
I remembered those days vividly. Knowing his fondness for San Pedro Seafood, I had gone out of my way to purchase the recipe and spent half a month learning from the shop’s owner. Back then, I loved him so deeply.
Not only that, I had searched tirelessly for renowned herbalists to treat his chronic stomach problems. Every day, I would prepare remedies and meals tailored to ease his condition. Under my care, his health gradually improved.
But one day, he turned to me and said he was tired of my efforts. Right in front of me, he indulged in spicy crayfish brought by Amber despite knowing it would damage his stomach. That day, I decided I would never concern myself with him again.
Shane gazed toward the spot where I had once stood, his tone laden with regret. “That night, she stood right there, beaming with joy as she urged me to try the risotto she had made. But I refused.”
“Mr. Lundberg, you’ll find Mrs. Lundberg soon…” Devon could sense Shane’s turmoil. His erratic gaze made him appear almost unhinged, which was concerning to see.
Shane continued, “That same night, my stomach problems flared up. I ended up using the medicine she had stashed in the drawer for me. Ally always kept me in mind, but because of my greed for something new, I kept putting her in an awkward position.”
“Mr. Lundberg, it’s all in the past. Your relationship with Mrs. Lundberg had been built over many years. No matter what happens, she will definitely forgive you.”
“You’re right. She loves me, and that’s the undeniable truth. When I bring her back, I swear I’ll treat her well. I won’t hurt her again.”
Shane opened a drawer and pulled out the ring that he hadn’t managed to put on at the wedding.
“I will give her the wedding she deserves.”
Devon nodded in relief. “Mr. Lundberg, that’s the spirit. You and Mrs. Lundberg are family.”

“Too bad I only realized this simple truth today. If I’d come to my senses sooner, Ally wouldn’t have left me in anger.”
Shane’s eyes darkened. “Also, I need you to investigate someone for me.”
“Who is it?
Shane uttered every syllable through gritted teeth, “Amber Schultz.” Then he added, “I want to know what she’s done over the years.”
