Chapter 86
At this point, I couldn’t help but feel an odd sense of admiration for Amber.
Even though Shane had been determined to sever ties with her, she had managed to completely redirect his focus in just a few seconds.
Shane’s expression turned serious as if he were genuinely pondering the issue.
“No wonder I always felt he was overly concerned about Ally. Could it be that I was his target all along?”
“Shane, think about it. In the past, he rarely ever returned to the Lundberg residence, let alone the country. But now? He’s been shifting his overseas businesses back to the country.
“He has also been accompanying Grandpa for tea time and plays chess with him every day. Obviously, he’s aware of Grandpa’s declining health and is deliberately trying to curry favor.
“And you and Ally? Your situation gives Grandpa every reason to be dissatisfied with you. Recently, he’s already been showing signs of disapproval.
“There’ve been minor issues at the company, too. If you leave the company now to go abroad and something happens, wouldn’t that just hand Uncle Damon a perfect opportunity to undermine you?”
Shane’s expression visibly changed. “Would he go to such lengths?”
“Shane, people will do anything for wealth and power. The Lundbergs are such a massive empire. Anyone with ambition wouldn’t let such an opportunity slip through their fingers.
“Who in this world truly treats money as dirt? I suspect Ally’s disappearance is connected to Uncle Damon. You’ll fall right into his trap if you lose your composure now.
“Think about it. If someone photographs you going abroad to search for her, even find her, you’ll come back covered in scandals.

“Domestic media will run wild with the story. Grandpa will undoubtedly be furious, and he might even strip you of your position as president.”
Shane frowned deeply. “So, you’re saying that I should ignore Ally? We grew up together as childhood sweethearts. If she’s truly suffering abroad, how can I abandon her?”
“Shane, Ally must be saved, but just not by you. You can arrange for someone else to handle it. That way, even if it’s discovered, no one will trace it back to you.”
Shane’s attitude toward Amber softened slightly. “I’ll think about it. You can leave for now.”
“Alright.”
Though she left, it was clear that he had taken her words to heart.
He instructed Devon to investigate Damon’s recent movements.
Although puzzled by Shane’s sudden interest in his uncle, Devon immediately began looking
into it.
Soon, he returned with a report. “Mr. Lundberg, he’s currently not in the country.”
“Where did he go?”
“Abroad. And it’s the same city where we were planning to go.”
Shane’s expression darkened instantly. “So, Amber was right, after all.”
“Mr. Lundberg, what do you mean?”
“Cancel my ticket immediately.”
Devon was baffled. His boss’s sudden change of heart was as swift as flipping pages in a book.
Just moments ago, he had been demanding to leave as soon as possible. What had happened?
“Wait, Mr. Lundberg, you’re not going to look for Mrs. Lundberg anymore? What if she’s actually there?”
“At first, I couldn’t be sure. But now, I’m certain that this has something to do with Damon. Ally is just a pretext. Luring me there is his real goal!”
Hearing this explanation, Devon was even more confused. “Mr. Lundberg, I understand you’re deeply worried about Mrs. Lundberg’s disappearance, but you don’t seem very stable right now. What does this have to do with Mr. Damon? I really don’t get it.”
“You’re not supposed to. If Amber hadn’t reminded me, I might’ve been fooled, too. My uncle is definitely making his move to secure the Lundberg family’s inheritance. He’s targeting me!”
