Between us lay a grudge that could never be reconciled.
Ronald sighed heavily, looking regretful. “Just a few days ago, you were still drinking on his behalf to apologize to one of his patients. I thought your, relationship was solid.”
He paused, his expression darkening. “I didn’t expect the rumors to be true. So, he really is involved with another woman! Teresa, don’t worry. I’ll get to the bottom of this. Anyone who’s wronged you will have to answer for it!”
I wanted to stop Ronald from getting involved.
Stephen was ruthless, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned on Ronald if pushed too far. But before I could say anything, Ronald, clearly angered, had already stormed off.
Left with no choice, I sent him a message, warning him to be cautious of Stephen.
Not long after Ronald left, Frank came into the room with a group of medical staff for a check–up.
Leading the way, Frank stopped by my bedside and spoke earnestly. “Ms. Teresa, I owe you a formal apology.”
“I shouldn’t have believed the words of those with ulterior motives and forgotten a doctor’s duty.” His voice tightened. “This mistake was severe. It almost cost you your life. I’ll certainly face disciplinary action from the higher–ups, and I accept that it’s what I deserve.”
When he finished, the other staff who had been involved in my treatment followed his lead apologizing to me one by one.
Listening to their apologies, a mix of emotions surged within me, leaving me overwhelmed and conflicted.
While these people had saved my life, they had also nearly cost me to lose it. I wasn’t generous enough to completely forgive them, but I couldn’t say I felt deep resentment either.
I said calmly, “What’s done is done. Dwelling on past mistakes changes nothing. I only hope the guilt stays with you long enough to remember this lesson well. It’s not too late to turn things around. Don’t let yourselves be manipulated by those with ulterior motives again.”
As soon as I finished speaking, the door flew open with a loud kick, and Stephen stormed in, looking furious.
“You wretch! Who are you calling someone with ulterior motives? It’s bad enough that you’re sabotaging me with Dr. Thomas, but now you’re slandering me in front of my colleagues? Do you hate seeing me succeed that much?”
With that, he raised his hand to strike me, but Frank stepped in and blocked him before he could lay a finger on me.
