Ryan still didn’t seem to understand what was going on. His expression remained relaxed as he said, “Uncle Lucas is getting married too? That’s great news! Hey, how about we hold the wedding together? That way, Silver Claws can really have a good time celebrating!”
Ryan’s father frowned and barked, “What nonsense are you spouting? There’s no ‘together. It’s not your turn to get married yet! It’s Lucas and Alice who are getting married! Stop causing trouble here!”
Turning to me with a pleased smile, he raised his glass. “Honestly, I thought I’d never live to see the day my brother got married. Alice, this toast is for you!”
It finally dawned on Ryan. His face froze, and his voice quivered as he stammnered, “D–Dad… who did you say is getting married?”
Before Ryan’s father could reply, Lucas clasped my hand and placed it on the table for everyone to see, meeting Ryan’s stunned gaze. “The ones getting married are Alice and me.”
“This can’t be! This is absolutely impossible!” Ryan shot up from his chair, disbelief etched across his face.
“You brat! What’s gotten into you tonight?” his father scolded. “This is a family dinner-
t?” his father scolded. “This is a family dinner- what kind of behavior is this? Is this how you treat your elders now? Keep acting up, and I’ll throw you out myself!”
Ryan clenched his fists, his shòck barely contained, and reluctantly sat back down.
The rest of the dinner revolved around discussing the details of my upcoming wedding with Lucas. Throughout the evening, Ryan’s gaze remained fixed on me, ignoring even Willow’s repeated attempts to get his attention.
When the dinner ended and we stepped outside, I realized I had forgotten my coat. Lucas immediately went back in to fetch it for me. While I waited at the door, Ryan, his eyes red with emotion, suddenly grabbed my arm.
“Tell me! Why are you engaged to Uncle Lucas?”
I pulled my arm away, meeting his question with one of my own. “Why not?”
