Allgelina was a bit excited when she saw the female lead.
“What do you think of Rosalind, the person next to Megan?”
“Nothing much.”
In the novel, Isadora and Rosalind would later become close friends who could talk about anything. Their relationship as sisters–in–law would strengthen as well.
Rosalind would also give Isadora some design ideas.
“She’s just a little pretty. Also, don’t act like that. You’re embarrassing me.” Isadora frowned.” Forget it, I’ll let it slide since you’re pregnant. Let’s go home.”
After a luxurious afternoon tea, they squeezed into the subway station. As it was rush hour, the subway station was incredibly packed.
Isadora shielded Angelina. “Be careful, my sister–in–law is pregnant. Don’t push. Move over a bit. There’s a pregnant woman here.”
At first, no one had noticed Angelina, but once they got on the subway, someone quickly offered Angelina a seat upon hearing Isadora’s words.
“Have a seat, ma’am.”
“No, thank you. I’ll be getting off in just a few stops.”
“Just sit. Why are you being so polite?”
Isadora winked at her, so Angelina had no choice but to sit.
Isadora stood closest to her, holding onto the handrail. Angelina felt her false contractions acting up again. Leaning against the noisy subway, she fell asleep.
The journey wasn’t bumpy. It was just that the speed would pick up and slow down slightly during starts and stops.
In the basement, Alexander had someone deliver a pool table and clean up the basement instantly transformed.

“What kind of outfit is that? It’s so effeminate.”
Ryan and Joshua had already mocked Alexander’s outfit. Chester was the only one left to make a comment about it.

Chester was busy with work, his eyes glued to the lines of code. He hadn’t even glanced at Alexander, who had been waiting for two hours without getting so much as a look.
“Take a break, Chester. It’s not as if you can’t afford a meal. Don’t stress yourself out like this.”
Alexander put a hand on Chester’s shoulder, but Chester continued typing code.
“Move your hand away,” he said coldly.
Holding a pool cue in one hand, Alexander frowned as the smoke filled the basement. “You’ve turned the place into a smoky mess.”
“Chester, we all came here to keep you from getting bored. You can’t just dismiss us like this. It’s so heartless of you.
“Yeah, so heartless,” Alexander said, hooking the pool cue. Just then, his phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Alexander tossed the pool cue to Joshua and rushed out.
“How mysterious. Why does he have to go outside to take the call?”
“His childhood sweetheart called.”
“She’s back?”
“Yeah, I heard she’s back.”
After answering the call, Alexander said, “Meg.”
“I can’t watch the movie with you tonight. I’m going to keep Rosalind company. You’ll have to make your own plan.”
Alexander was slightly annoyed. But since she was happy, he smiled and said, “Alright. When will you be done? Let’s grab supper together later”
“No, I’ll be spending the night with Rosalind, so don’t call me.
“Then tomorrow, when will you-”
“I’ll be accompanying Rosalind to an art exhibition tomorrow.”
Alexander was speechless.
“By the way, I think I just saw Isadora at a coffee shop. The woman next to her-”
“I have nothing to do with her.”
“I know you don’t have the guts to do that. But that woman is just so annoying. She even tried to steal you from me!”
Alexander glanced behind him to make sure no one was around before clearing his throat. ” Don’t mind her. It’s all in the past now. If she’s willing to settle down with Chester, let’s not mention the past. You didn’t say anything to her did you?”

“No, I couldn’t be bothered to talk to her.”
“Good. Meg, you’ve finally come back. Spend some time with me.”
“It’s not fun being with you.”
Alexander was rendered speechless again. “I’ll do whatever you want, okay?”
“I just don’t want to spend time with you. Bye.” Megan hung up without hesitation after speaking.
Alexander looked at the phone screen, which reflected his outfit for the day. He had specifically chosen this set of clothes because Megan had said he looked good in light colors.
When he got back, Chester had already gotten up and had a cigarette in his mouth.
“Unbelievable! Mr. Whitmore has stood up! Mr. Whitmore actually put down his programs and
codes.”
“If you change into a red coat, you’ll make a thousand at the club tonight,” Chester insulted without using foul language.
Ryan patted his shoulder. “Great minds think alike. This outfit is too extravagant. Older women probably like it.”
“If you don’t have anything nice to say, shut your mouth. This isn’t effeminate at all. Effeminate men dress in light colors.”
“Effeminate or weak?”
“Shut up!”
Angelina slept through several stops but still felt tired.
When they got out of the subway station, Isadora thought the chilly river breeze would make Angelina cold. Hence, she bought a cup of milk tea to warm her up.
Emily texted her, “When are you coming back? Don’t take Angelina out to cause trouble.”
“Will be back soon.”
“I’ve made some fried fish. Don’t fill your stomach with junk food.”
Angelina took the milk tea from Isadora. When she was about to drink it, Isadora brought the cup to her own lips. “Don’t drink this. Go home and have the fried fish.”
“Just one sip.”
Isadora held the milk tea, letting Angelina take only a tiny sip before taking the cup back.

Inside the house, Emily’s hand was red and swollen from a burn. There were two blisters. Emily used a needle to prick the blisters and wrapped the wounds with a bandage
Florence Hastings from next door brought a small pack of bread rolls over.
“What’s this for, Madam Hastings?”
“Your family has a lot of people. They can finish it.”
“I’m a little shy to take this.”
“Don’t be. The socks you gave me last time were great. Your daughter–in–law is about to give birth. In a couple of days, I’ll bring over some clothes from my granddaughter–in–law’s place. It’s good for kids to wear hand–me–downs.”
“Thank you so much, Madam Hastings.”
“What happened to your hand?”
Florence immediately noticed the bandage on Emily’s hand.
Emily sighed. “I was just about to tell you. I had the fish gutted and cleaned at the market. I washed it and put it in the oil like you told me to. Guess what?”
“What?”
“It suddenly jumped, and oil splashed all over me. It was already dead, but it just came back to life and jumped.”
There was still some fear in Emily’s eyes. “Do you think its soul came back to haunt me? It was already dead, but it jumped like that. It was so scary!”
“That means the fish is fresh, which is a good thing.” Florence couldn’t help but laugh. That’s perfectly normal. Sometimes, even after the fish is cut into pieces, the meat still twitches. Clearly, you’re not someone who cooks often.”
Emily let out another sigh. “I’m glad to hear it’s not something supernatural. You’ve put me at
ease.
“If you’re ever scared of frying fish again, just let me help you. I’ve got all the time in the world anyway.”
“Thank you so much, Madam Hastings. Have you eaten yet? Come in and have a bite.”
“No, thank you. I’ve already eaten. I’m just heading out for a walk.”
On her way downstairs, Florence ran into Angelina and Isadora. “From the look of that belly, it’s definitely a boy.”
“Hello, Madam Hastings.”
“Hello, go on up now. Your mother–in–law made fried fish for dinner.”
