Chapter 53
Taking care of a baby was hard work, but Emily enjoyed every moment of it.
In the first few days, Chester was in charge of looking after Catherine, but Emily insisted on taking over. Even when Chester refused, she stayed by Catherine’s side day and night, radiating kindness and brimming with motherly affection.
Nevertheless, Chester had work to do and couldn’t stay in the hospital forever. The final step of his software development required his personal involvement.
The night before he had to leave, while Angelina was sleeping soundly on her hospital bed, he sent Emily back to rest and put Catherine to sleep
He leaned close to Angelina’s ear, whispering, “Honey, do you want a midnight snack?”
Angelina had been feeling hungry a lot recently, though she couldn’t actually eat much. As such, the mention of a midnight snack instantly perked her up. “Chester, I want spicy potato wedges.”
She opened her eyes, looking at him eagerly. “If I can’t have anything spicy, then it doesn’t have to be spicy. I just want to have a taste. Can I?”
“Of course, you can. Once you’ve fully recovered, you can eat whatever you want.”
Angelina was speechless.
“Here. Your midnight snack.”
“Snack…”
She sniffed the air but couldn’t smell any food. Looking around at the empty cabinets, she asked, “Where’s the snack?”
“Right here.”
He leaned in, capturing her lips and savoring the kiss. Low hums of satisfaction escaped–him from time to time.
Angelina, still recovering and unable to move much, was forced to kiss him back. Tilting her head, she murmured, “Stop kissing me…”
If she had known this was his idea of a midnight snack, she wouldn’t have woken up even if he had spicy potato wedges with all sorts of toppings.
She tried to avoid him, but he began kissing her neck. “Angelina, tomorrow is an important day.”
“What?”

“I said tomorrow is an important day, so give me some good luck.”
Angelina, overwhelmed by his kisses, felt her mind go blank. “How do I do that?”
“Just lie there and let me kiss you.”
The next morning, when Angelina woke up, Chester was already gone.
After becoming used to his presence over the past few days, she felt slightly unsettled now that he was suddenly gone.
Emily and a caregiver, Patricia Harlan, looked after her. But Angelina could only stare blankly at the ceiling.
Occasionally, the doctor would come to check her wound or measure the baby’s temperature. Catherine’s redness and wrinkles had already faded, and her skin was now smooth and fair.
For the next month, they still had to monitor her jaundice.
Emily said into the phone, “She’s eaten. Just focus on your work and stop worrying. I’ll take care of Angelina and Catherine. Don’t worry–Catherine is very well–behaved and doesn’t fuss
at all.”
Angelina gazed out through the glass window at the broad streets below. The maternity hospital in Brookhaven was built in the city center. Outside, the wide road and congested. traffic stretched endlessly.
Angelina couldn’t help but wonder what Chester was doing.
According to the novel, Chester was supposed to launch a new software soon. He would make a nice profit and then develop another one to earn even more.
The novel was vague about timelines, so Angelina didn’t know the exact moment Chester would become successful again.
She merely skimmed through the pages of the novel, only paying attention to the key plot points. She ended up overlooking these details.
If she had known she’d end up as the supporting character, she wouldn’t have missed a single word.
Angelina was lost in thought when Catherine woke up. The soft, chubby baby stared at her, melting her heart instantly.
After all, this was her own child. She had a special bond with Catherine. Angelina leaned down, rubbing her face gently against Catherine’s cheel
The next second, Catherine scrunched her brows together–though she barely had any–and made a very displeased face.
Chapter 53
Angelina was at a loss.
“What’s with that look, Cutie? Are you unhappy with our family or something?”
“No, of course, Catherine isn’t unhappy. She’s very content and happy.”
Emily chuckled kindly, but just then, a foul smell spread through the ward. Realizing Catherine had dirtied her diaper, Emily and Patricia quickly changed it.
Meanwhile, Chester was in the basement studio, borrowing a few of Alexander’s employees to monitor the software launch closely.
Everything was ready as all the pieces had fallen into place. All that was needed was Chester’s command.
He estimated that the software could earn 100 million dollars. Alexander had advised him to take things slow, but Chester couldn’t wait.
Angelina had already gone through so much with him. He couldn’t bear to put her through more tough times as the guilt weighed heavily on him.
