Chapter 61
Angelina spent a week in the hospital after giving birth, living a routine of nothing but eating and sleeping.
Her wound still hurt during the first few days, but it gradually got better. The doctor examined her and found no major issues, so she was cleared to leave the hospital.
Chester made a call, planning to send Angelina to a postpartum care center for some time. Emily also agreed, thinking it would be more proper for her to be looked after at the center.
However, Angelina noticed that the family couldn’t bear to be apart from Catherine. If she went to the postpartum care center, she would have to bring Catherine with her, which would mean Emily running back and forth every day. It would just cause extra hassle.
“Forget it, I’ll go home. I won’t go to the postpartum care center. Let Patricia come to the house to take care of me instead.”
“Are you sure?”
Chester was worried that with a child at home, things would get too chaotic in their small apartment unit and that she might not be happy.
But Angelina had no such concerns. “It’s warmer and more comforting for the family to be together, and it would be too tiring for Emily to go back and forth every day.”
Her thoughtful demeanor left Emily so moved that she didn’t know what to say.
Chester asked again after everyone had left, “Are you sure? You really want to go home after being discharged?”
“Why are you nagging so much?”
After she gave birth, or rather, from the time she was nearing childbirth, Chester started speaking a lot more. Sometimes, he would stare at her blankly, occasionally smiling at her with a look of fondness.
One time, Angelina drank water too quickly and choked. He smiled dazedly as he reached out to wipe her lips. Angelina had to avoid his gaze as she felt uneasy.
“Well, if you’ve made up your mind, then I’ll listen to you,” he said.
On the day Angelina was discharged, Emily helped her downstairs to the underground parking lot. Gerald was holding the car seat, Chester was holding the baby, and Patricia was carrying the bags.
This short walk felt long to Angelina. She was fully bundled up, wearing long clothes, pants, a scarf, and a hat. She also had cotton shoes on.
Chapter 61
She walked very carefully. Chester suddenly dropped the luggage in his hands and stepped forward to lift her up in his arms.
“Ches!”
“You’re being so clumsy!”
The sudden move startled Angelina, and her body was lifted off the ground. She quickly clung to his neck.
“Chester, what are you doing?”
“Let me carry you if it’s inconvenient for you to walk. Tell me if you’re feeling unwell.”
On the way back, the scenery passed them by until the car stopped at the entrance of their apartment.
“My brother bought this house; he said it has sentimental value. We’ll move in soon.”
Angelina didn’t know about that. She glanced at Chester and silently thought to herself, Could it be that the big shot… is about to make a comeback?”
In just a few months of living in the suburbs, he had already found a way to make money.
Chester didn’t show any obvious reaction. He was as calm as ever, helping her out of the passenger seat and carrying her upstairs.
“I can walk on my own.”
“Stop talking nonsense!”
All the gifts that Catherine received ended up with Angelina. As she watched the numbers in her bank account grow, Angelina felt like she was living the dream life.
Angelina took a nap after lunch. She slept soundly, and when she woke up, Chester had returned from outside.
It looked like he had finished working and was feeling exhausted. He took off his suit jacket and began unbuttoning his shirt one by one.
His shirts were always as white as new. He casually tossed it aside and put on a soft, white T- shirt. Then, he lifted a corner of the blanket and lay down.
The bed at home was much more spacious than the hospital bed. It was enough for two people to lie down together.
Angelina slightly propped herself up, and Chester gently embraced her. “Did I hurt you?”
“No… What’s wrong with you?”
“I just want to sleep.”
