Chapter 63
Megan was already somewhat fearful of marriage, she became even more scared of getting married after hearing Nora’s advice. Just the thought of it was unbearable.
She would rather remain the unattainable ideal for Alexander, offering him the best of herself, than live a mundane life with him filled with trivialities.
“Men these days are tricky, and many of them aren’t worth anything. They stop cherishing you once they’ve got you.”
Megan couldn’t listen any longer. The more she heard, the more determined she was to focus on her work. She turned and began drawing design sketches.
Rosalind sat nearby and continued chatting with Nora.
“Do many men behave like this, Nora? Do they all end up resenting their wives?”
“Yes, they all do. They get bored over time. No matter how beautiful you are, it won’t stop him from going out and finding someone else.”
Catherine had just fallen asleep when Isadora got home. The house was too small, so Catherine’s stroller could only be placed on the balcony, where she slept while basking in the
sun.
The whole family walked on tiptoes as if they were thieves, trying not to make any noise for fear of waking Catherine.
Isadora leaned over the stroller and smiled as she gazed at Catherine’s soft little face. “I never imagined I’d become an aunt…”
“Your father and I never thought we’d become grandparents so soon either.”
“We’re getting old,” Gerald said with a sigh.
“Where’s Chester? Didn’t you say he was coming back? I haven’t seen him around.”
“He went straight to bed when he came in.”
“The software he developed this time should make a lot of money, right?”

Alexander sent Megan a message, asking her to join him for dinner that evening.

Megan picked up her phone and was about to reply with a simple, “Okay.” She had already typed the message, but then she glanced at the door.
Nora and Rosalind had been chatting about family matters for almost an hour.
“Men invite you for meals, movies, shopping, and buy you whatever you want when they’re pursuing you. None of them are any different. It’s just their basic strategy. Don’t expect them to spend a single penny on you once they have you.
“They may hand over their entire salary as a sweet promise, but secretly, they’re definitely hiding some pocket money.”
Megan deleted the message upon hearing this and typed a new one, “I won’t go.”
Alexander was smoking while staring at the phone screen, seeing that she was still typing.
He waited for a long time, only to receive a few words. “I won’t go.”
He furrowed his brows together and called her.
He hadn’t upset her recently; he had been supporting whatever she did, almost obedient to everything.
“They start calling you when you reject them; it’ll be non–stop–ten, 20 calls. It’s as if they can’t live without you. But it’s all fake.”
Megan glanced at Nora and switched her phone to silent mode.
Alexander kept calling her non–stop as expected.
“Their ultimate goal is to trick us women into marrying them and having children. What’s so good about marriage? There’s no freedom, and you have to do everything they ask.”
“They make it sound all sweet, saying ‘I’ll take care of you, you don’t need to work,‘ but as soon as you actually stop working, they’ll start criticizing. You’ll still have to depend on them for money, and if they stop supporting you, you’ll be unable to survive. Then, they’ll act like they’re the savior.”
The more Megan listened, the angrier she became. When she saw that Alexander was still calling, she turned off her phone in frustration,
Alexander kept calling, but suddenly the call wouldn’t go through.
Tony noticed his expression wasn’t quite right. “Mr. Hunt?”
“I’ll go out for a while.”
“Mr. Hunt, but we have an appointment…”
“Cancel it.”
Megan was the most important. Nothing mattered more than her.

Rosalind listened intently. “Nora, what if we don’t answer their calls?”
“They’ll definitely show up, either sweaty or drenched in rain, just to make you feel soft- hearted.”
“Nora, you really know a lot. How do you know all this?”
