Chapter 80
Alexander stood tall, his back straight, holding a tiny baby in his arms. He took careful steps, one at a time, and his expression was tight with tension.
“Alexander, relax,” Emily urged gently.
But he couldn’t. He was too worried the baby might be uncomfortable.
It was surprising that someone as young as Catherine had already received so many gift cards. and presents.
Angelina had initially planned to keep everything for herself. After all, the baby was hers, wasn’t it? There was no need to draw a line between mother and daughter.
But then she thought back to her own childhood, recalling how adults would always take away her gifts. A wave of sympathy for her daughter washed over her, and she resolutely decided she wouldn’t be that kind of adult.
She then asked Chester to set up a trust fund for Catherine. All monetary gifts she received would be saved and invested, to be given to her when she came of
age.
“Catherine, say ‘Uncle Alexander‘. Come on… say something,” Alexander encouraged softly
He watched the baby babbling, and then turned to Emily and asked, “Aunt Emily, when will she start talking?”
“It’s too soon for that.”
“What about walking? When will she start walking?”
Having no experience with babies, he had no idea when they’d reach these milestones. Even Megan seemed curious.
“Maybe in a few months?” he guessed.
“No. Not that soon. Be patient,” Emily replied.
“I don’t like it. Stop putting food on my plate,” Angelina said.
She wasn’t fond of hot dishes. Her eyes, instead, were fixed on the cold appetizers on the banquet table. The tangy and spicy flavors made her mouth water.
She took a bite, and the flavors were surprisingly good. Delighted, she reached out for more. Just then, Chester spun the lazy Susan, sending the dish further away.
“You shouldn’t be eating cold food right now. It’s not good for your recovery,” Chester said, his tone firm.
Angelina frowned. “I’m feeling back to normal now.”

“You’re done with your recovery, so what? Does that mean you can suddenly do whatever you want?” he
shot back
“I’m not trying to do anything crazy. I just want a bite of cold food,” she muttered, rolling her
eyes.
It was early fall, and Angelina wore a cotton, bell–sleeved dress that reached her ankles, paired with cozy socks and soft leather shoes. A beige coat was draped over her shoulders, giving her a simple, homey look
After childbirth, she should have dressed up, but instead, she looked like this. She had plenty of complaints about Chester. Since when had this man become so overbearing and meticulous?
“Angelina, listen to Chester for now,” Rosalind interjected, having observed the exchange.
Angelina met Rosalind’s gaze, feeling a little disgruntled.
“Did you hear that?” Chester asked.
“Yes, I heard you. I’ll listen to you.”
Fine. If she couldn’t eat the cold dishes, there were still other spicy dishes she could enjoy.
But it seemed Chester always knew what she was thinking. In no time, he filled her bowl with mild, nourishing food.
“Forget about spicy food for now. In a little while, I’ll let you eat your fill.”
“Do you have to be so controlling?” she grumbled.
“I am controlling,” he replied with a smirk.
The celebration for Catherine’s one–month milestone ended with the baby being showered in attention and gifts. She was never left in the cradle; she was passed from one adoring set of arms to another.
Angelina couldn’t eat what she craved and had to settle for light, nourishing dishes. Even though her recovery period was over and she could technically go out, life still felt the same as being confined at home.
Sensing her boredom, Rosalind brought up the idea of returning to work.
“Angelina, Chester mentioned your designs are quite unique. We could really use someone like you at the studio.”
Angelina had never considered a career in design before, but Rosalind’s suggestion stirred something in her.
Wasn’t there a saying that every woman should have a career of her own? She had been wondering what to do with herself…
