Chapter 97
Angelina was in a terrible mood because she failed to scare Chester. She’d imagined his expression would twist in fear or even jolt in shock, but none of that happened.
On the way back, Chester carried Catherine while Angelina walked ahead. She wore a simple white long–sleeved shirt and checkered pants, her hair casually undone, her steps slow and
carefree.
“Watch your step,” he cautioned, worried she might trip.
“I know how to walk! Do you really need to tell me?” She turned to glare at him. But just a few steps later, her left foot caught on her right, and she almost ended up on her knees.
He reacted quickly and reached out to steady her.
Blushing furiously, Angelina grumbled, “This is all your fault. My legs are still sore after what you did last night.”
Chester was stunned.
She felt embarrassed the moment the words left her mouth. How could she let herself say something so shameless in broad daylight?
Nonetheless, she refused to admit she had been distracted earlier because that would be like admitting defeat.
“Whatever. It’s still your fault.”
“Fine. Blame it on me.‘
Chester could never figure out her way of thinking.
When they reached a barbeque store by the gate of their apartment, Angelina stopped in her tracks. The rich, mouthwatering aroma of spicy skewers wafted through the air.
She couldn’t help but swallow hard as she looked through the glass window at the people inside eating happily. Beside her, Chester turned his head to the side, trying to suppress a smile.
Completely unaware of her own reaction, she stood there, captivated. Her desires were pure instinct at this point.
“Let’s go.”
For a moment, her happiness shattered.
“Let’s go inside the shop.”
Happiness struck her like lightning. Angelina shook her head, trying to hold back. “No, it’s

fine. You’re working hard to grow your business. I should help you save some money.”
Sure, he already had billions, but he was still working toward becoming one of Brookhaven’s
elite families.
“Alright.”
Caught off guard by his response, she quickly grabbed his hand. “Actually, maybe we don’t
need to save that much.”
“You’re the one who said we should.”
“I was just being polite!”
Chester took her hand and chuckled. That’s when Angelina understood she had been duped. He did it on purpose despite knowing how much she craved it.
Furious, she stormed into the restaurant and demanded the spiciest skewers they had. Oil glistened on her lips, and a bit of barbeque sauce stuck to her cheek as she devoured them.
Meanwhile, Chester stared at the barbeque skewers, unsure where to start. He couldn’t handle spicy, sweet, or overly salty food. He barely ate much at home, so she was constantly worried he might actually starve.
“Try a little. It’s really good.”
He shook his head, “No. You eat.”
By now, Angelina’s used skewers were stacked high, whereas Chester’s side of the table was entirely empty. He had gone to the restaurant next door and got a bowl of chicken soup, which he was now enjoying slowly.
He sat across from her, graceful and composed. His sharp features and calm demeanor seemed to draw in all the light in the room, leaving everything else in shadow.
Meanwhile, Angelina’s cheeks were stuffed full as she chewed furiously. The spiciness forced her to eat quickly as there was no time to let the heat linger.
She left nothing untouched, from meat to vegetables, shoveling it all into her mouth.
Chester continued to eat his chicken soup at his own pace, unmoyed by her enthusiasm for spicy food.
Though her stomach was full, Angelina felt unsatisfied. She felt it was boring that she couldn’t scare him or share her spicy joy with him.
“Chester, here.”
“No.”
“Come on. Try it. It’s delicious.‘
“Take it away.”
