Chapter 10

Diana made a firm decision in her heart.
She hadn’t been able to give Stephen anything before, but it wasn’t too late to start now.
So, from that day on, she followed Stephen everywhere, tirelessly buying him all sorts of gifts.
Whether it was at his apartment or the office, she was there every morning at 7 a.m., waiting.
The branch office practically turned into a delivery hub because of her.
Diana thought that doing all this was showing her devotion and would win him back.
But Stephen never once looked her way.
He even found her so annoying that he started taking a different route home to avoid her.
A week passed quickly.
Rachel walked into the lab holding a gift box. “It’s from her again. Where should I put it?”
Stephen, in the middle of a critical step, looked irritated at the interruption. “Throw it away. Throw it all away.”
“From now on, toss anything she sends straight into the trash. Don’t even tell me about it.”
“Got it,” Rachel replied, nodding thoughtfully.
Looking at the missed call on her phone, she hesitated but still reported it to Stephen.
“She called the company, asking for you.”
When he picked up the call, he learned that Diana had been detained.
Her visa had expired, yet she refused to leave. She had spent all her money on gifts, and now she couldn’t afford the fine or a ticket back to her country.
With a sigh, Stephen had the entire lab put on hold and rushed out.
At the detention center, he paid her fines and went through a long process to sort everything out.
Watching him bustling around from behind the window, Diana felt her heart warm with a happiness she hadn’t felt in a long time.
It was as if they were still in that city, where he’d get up every morning to make her a hot breakfast.
It seemed he still cared for her.
If she just kept trying, she was sure she’d move him eventually.
Diana stared at Stephen’s back, not daring to look away, afraid he’d disappear the second she did.
When all the procedures were completed, Stephen didn’t avoid her this time but simply sat quietly on a chair.
Seeing this, she nearly jumped with joy and eagerly went over, throwing herself into his arms.
“You finally came to get me!”
But in the next moment, he pushed her away.
“Stay away from me.”
For the first time, an expression of disgust and anger crossed Stephen’s face.
Shocked, she stammered, “What’s wrong, Stephen? Didn’t you forgive me…”
“Forgive you? How am I supposed to forgive you?”
“Do you have any idea how much work I’ve missed because of your nonsense?”
“I’ve worked so hard to get here, and you insist on ruining everything!”
Stephen grabbed her by the collar, his voice close to breaking.
“Think about it—I’ve given you twenty years of my life! What more do you want from me?”
Seeing him on the verge of losing control, Diana was stunned, at a loss for words.
In all their years together, she had never seen him like this.
It was as if years of resentment had finally erupted all at once.
He was still in his sterile lab coat, dark circles under his eyes from sleepless nights.
Seeing this, she realized just how much he had endured.
“I… I didn’t mean to, Stephen,” she whispered.
“I’m truly sorry…”

“Does ‘sorry‘ help?”
Stephen pushed her away again, fighting back tears.
He knew the truth- she was only doing all this to ease her own guilt, never once thinking about things from his perspective.
“Diana, don’t be so selfish.”
“I’m not here to fix your mess; I’m here to send you home.”
“From now on, don’t show up in front of me again. You’re truly exhausting.”
