Chapter 20
As she was about to leave work, Savage suddenly called Diana into his office.
“Both the Marketing and Management departments would be good fits for you. If you’d like, I can transfer you right away.”
“I…”
Diana hesitantly asked, “Could I be a secretary instead?”
“A secretary? Isn’t that an administrative role?”
Savage looked at her curiously. “Whose secretary do you want to be?”
“Vice President Stephen’s.”
“That’s not possible. He already has a secretary.”
Diana froze upon hearing this.
“You didn’t know? A new girl joined today. She was an intern before, so this time she was hired full–time right away.”
In the underground parking lot:
“Let me give you a ride; it’s hard to catch the metro from here.”
Stephen looked at Rachel and asked, “But seriously, why did you suddenly come back?”
“My courses are over.”
Rachel stuck out her tongue playfully. “Why, don’t you want me back? Am I that annoying?”
“Not at all.”
Stephen gently pinched her cheek. “There you go again. Let’s go.”
Just as they got into the car, Diana appeared.
She was stunned to see Rachel in the passenger seat, then turned to Stephen, unwilling to believe it. “Stephen, who is she?”
Before he could respond, Rachel smiled and leaned close to him.
“Hello, I’m Stephen’s secretary–and his girlfriend. Can I help you with something?”
Seeing this younger, prettier girl, Diana was overcome with jealousy.
It felt like she’d lost all hope, that everything was truly over.
In that moment, she understood Stephen’s past pain, magnified a hundredfold.
“Stephen, she’s lying, right? She only just arrived.”
Diana forced a smile, clinging to hope. “Just answer me, yes or no.”
“I haven’t bothered you recently. I just want to work quietly. Please, tell me the truth.”
Stephen gripped the steering wheel, his expression calm.
Even though it wasn’t true, he couldn’t go back to his old life.
He no longer loved Diana and felt no pity for her.
“Yes, I’m dating her.”
Rachel added, “We met in Germany. Is there anything else, Miss Diana?”
“No.”
Diana shook her head, her heart filled with despair.
She could only watch as the car drove away, clinging to her dignity in front of another woman.
Inside the car;
“Is this what every day has been like since you came back?” Rachel asked thoughtfully.
“Pretty much.”
“She really is persistent. Seems she still has feelings for you.”
Rachel hesitantly asked, “Do you have any feelings for her?”
Stephen shook his head. “I don’t know why everyone keeps asking me that.”
“If someone can feel love for another person, they can also lose that love.”
“There’s nothing unforgettable in this world; if it feels that way, it just means not enough time has passed.”

“Well said.”
Rachel laughed. “So, how about treating me to dinner as a reward?”
“Normally, VPs don’t treat their secretaries, but since you’ve been helpful, I’ll make an exception.”
“Great!”
Rachel cheered, happily looking out the window.
To return sooner, she’d completed her courses months in advance.
She was relieved that Stephen hadn’t reconciled with Diana.
Her fondness for Stephen was hard to hide, something he had already noticed.
He’d even left the secretary position open for her on purpose.
But he didn’t want to pursue a relationship right now; he was too focused on regaining stability.
He was always serious and responsible, not one to be fickle.
At the restaurant, Rachel ate with enthusiasm, shoveling food into her mouth as if she hadn’t eaten so well in ages.
Watching her carefree enjoyment, Stephen couldn’t help but laugh.
Whenever he was around her, he felt a sense of relaxation.
“Hey, I have a question.”
Rachel wiped her mouth. “What kind of wife do you want in the future?”
