Chapter 6
When Stephen came to his senses, he realized the car’s front was already crushed.
He and Wayne in the passenger seat were tightly wedged in, with their legs trapped.
Worse yet, all the buttons were malfunctioning.
The front doors and windows were completely locked; there was no way out!
“Whoosh!”
Within seconds, flames began to rise from the front due to the damaged battery.
Wayne, seeing this, was jolted sober from his drunken state.
He frantically pushed at the car door, but it wouldn’t budge at all.
“Help! I don’t want to die!”
Stephen frowned and tried to break the window with his elbow, then pulled out a tool to smash the glass.
“The pressure point isn’t strong enough; someone needs to hit it from the outside too!”
Hearing this, Lucy quickly opened the back door and got out.
Wayne started trying to smash the glass as well, copying Stephen’s movements.
The three of them knew the car was on fire, and an explosion could happen at any moment!
If they couldn’t get out in time, they’d all be in grave danger.
As the fire grew more intense, Diana was at a loss, hesitating about which window to smash first.
Wayne, drenched in sweat and terrified, shouted,
“Diana, please! Save me first! I don’t want to die!”
Diana glanced at Wayne, just about to rush over, but suddenly hesitated, looking back at Stephen.
Stephen’s heart tightened.
So, even in a life–or–death situation, she still couldn’t abandon their years of relationship?
Was her hesitation a sign she’d choose him?
But in the next moment, Diana rushed to the passenger seat.
“Stephen, Wayne’s been drinking; I’ll get him out first!”
“I’ll come back for you right after.”
Hearing this, Stephen’s actions suddenly stopped.
He laughed bitterly.
He laughed at himself for spending twenty years failing to see through someone.
He laughed at himself for seeing through her now but still hoping for an impossible outcome.
Stephen’s face turned expressionless, moving like a machine.
Wayne finally managed to smash the window, a shard cutting a small gash on his hand.
“Wayne, you’re bleeding!”
“I’ll help you stop the bleeding.”
Diana’s face was full of panic as she frantically pulled Wayne out, then carried him away from the scene.
Stephen didn’t know how long he’d been smashing the window when finally, some passersby came to help and got him out; luckily, he only suffered minor injuries.
Two hours later, the accident was resolved.
Diana had already taken Wayne to the hospital.
Stephen, however, skipped claiming his car insurance and went home to pack his bags, preparing to catch his flight.
It was four hours until 8 a.m.
Just enough time for a final farewell.
Stephen sent Diana a message.
“Come home.”
Chapter 6
“I need to talk to you.”
But it was as if the message had never been sent; he waited for a reply that didn’t come.
An hour passed.
Two hours…
Flight notifications kept popping up, but Diana’s chat remained empty.
Quietly, Stephen got up, changed into the custom suit he’d just bought, bandaged his wounds, and washed his face.
Just as he was about to leave early, a message finally came.
“Wayne’s injured, I’m at the hospital taking care of him.”
“I’ll come home later. I’ll definitely spend time with you once I’m done!”
On social media, Wayne had nothing more than a small cut, yet Diana was tied up with him.
Stephen laughed suddenly.
Without a moment’s hesitation, he erased all of Diana’s contact details.
Then he left a breakup letter on the coffee table, with only one line on the cover.
“Diana, we’re over.”
After finishing everything, Stephen took one last look at the house and left without looking back.
