Chapter 8
When I returned to work, I spotted Selena waiting outside the office building. She was holding a box with a forced smile, and despite the heavy makeup on her face, she looked exhausted. Nonetheless, I could tell she had clearly made an effort to dress up in expensive clothes.
It was obvious that she had not been doing well during our time apart. Since she was clearly waiting for me, I texted my boss, claiming I was feeling unwell to avoid any drama, and got permission to take the day off
Just as I turned to leave, selena spotted me and ran over, holding her dress. She was still as reckless as ever, not caring about her own safety
Perhaps out of lingering affection, I stopped and waited as she approached. Selena just could not let go, and bearing her desperate words only made me sight knew she still loved me, but her love was not reserved for me only.
If she could not stay faithful, there was no point in continuing this relationship. I was exhausted and could not turn a blind eye anymore. I could not casually accept her being intimate with other men or sharing my wie with someone else
“It’s over, Selena. I’m tired. We can’t keep doing this,” I said firml
My words immediately triggered her. “Why? Why? Why, Hod? Isn’t it enough that I’ve admitted my mistakes?
Suddenly remembering something, she quickly opened the box she was holding to reveal an elaborate dessert. “Hud, look! I spent hours yesterday following food bloggers tutorials to make this mango cake. Please try it–I made it just for you, and I promise you’ll love!”
1fell silent when she mentioned that it was a mango cake. I looked at the cake with a frown but still reached for a piece and took a bite. The taste was as unpleasant as expected, and my skin started to swell. I sighed, feeling a deep sadness setting in.
Selena’s hopeful expression faltered as she caught my sigh, contusion filling her eyes. “What’s wrong, Hud? Why are you sighing? Does it taste bail? That can’t be it tastes great
Then, she took a bite herself and ate with obvious enjoyment. Watching her eat contentedly, I shook my head
My action only upset Selena further. She tnally put down her piece of cake and crouched down in distress
“You say you love me, but Selena, do you even know I’m allergic to mangoes? Do you know my skin swells up when I eat them? You don’t know anything about me,” Istated, pulling up my sleeve to reveal my already swollen skin.
Selena loved mangoes, but I was allergic to them. This was one of the reasons I initially hesitated to date her. However, her persistence eventually won me over
To make her happy, I tried to build up a tolerance, taking allergy medications and even ending up in the emergency room several times I thought I had become immune, but yesterday’s reaction proved that my body still rejected magons strongly sever
