Chapter 6
Nick held the bionic robot’s hand and
spoke with deep affection, “Helen, let me explain about last time. That woman is an intern at our company. I don’t know what got into her, she suddenly barged into my office and threw herself at me. Just as you walked in, I was about to push her away.”
“I swear to the heaven that I never did anything to betray you.” He carefully studied her expression and, eager to please, handed his phone to her and said, “Look, I’ve already notified HR to fire her. She won’t be showing up at the company anymore.”
The bionic robot didn’t respond. She simply focused on eating the food in front of her.
Nick had clearly put effort into this meal, the table was filled with dishes I used to love. Yet, it had been months since he last cooked or even ate at home.

Whenever I questioned him about his absences, he would respond with that same gentle and apologetic tone, “Sorry, Helen. The company’s big projects are keeping me busy. Once this period is over, I’ll make it
up to you.”
Each time he left, the timeline would align perfectly with his chats with Yvonne. Every ‘overtime‘ session turned out to be a date
with her.
He even chose the same locations where we had once shared fond memories. After putting me to bed, he would clock in, like a routine, to another woman’s bed.
Remembering these things always made me physically nauseous.
The bionic robot set her fork and knife
down, wiped her mouth and spoke, “Nick, I believe you.”
Just those few words brought tears to Nick’s eyes. He pulled the robot into a tight hug, planting soft kisses all over her face,
“Helen, thank you for forgiving me. I love

you so much. I promise I’ll never do anything to hurt you again.”
I raised an eyebrow in surprise. That was definitely not the kind of response I would have given.
At that moment, the lab called. The lead scientist sounded exhilarated, “Miss Rimes, this is incredible! We’ve detected that the bionic robot has developed its own consciousness. She’s no longer acting solely based on the personality data you provided. It seems … she’s realized that she’s a bionic robot.”
I opened the app’s backend to examine the data and found that the robot was thinking about how she couldn’t leave yet. She still needed more evidence to file for divorce.
Perhaps out of guilt, Nick was well–behaved for a while. He came home on time every day, never mentioned overtime and didn’t sneak out at night.
Several times, the robot noticed Yvonne’s

calls, but Nick never answered. One evening, his phone rang again.
Thinking the robot beside him was asleep, Nick hesitated for a long time before quietly slipping out of bed to answer the call.
The bionic robot’s enhanced hearing picked up every word of the conversation. On the other end was a coquettish female voice.
Nick demanded angrily, “Did I not make myself clear? We’re over. Stop calling me.”
The voice on the other end was laced with grievance and a hint of accusation, “But I love you! I miss you so much, Nick. I can’t sleep at night without you. Don’t you miss me? I just got a full–body treatment today. Don’t you want to come over and see?”
Nick’s voice suddenly became hoarse and he responded in a deep voice. After hanging up, he returned to the bed, placed a light kiss on the bionic robot’s forehead

and left without looking back.
What he didn’t notice was the small mobile
camera trailing behind him. It was then I learned that the woman lived just downstairs.
At dawn, Nick came back, carrying with him a faint mix of snow pine and an overly sweet fruity fragrance.
