Chapter 3 Nightmares of the Past
Anne returned to the Chastain Villa, pushing open the door to be greeted by her anxious parents. At the sight of them, she couldn’t help but reflect, “I’m really home. My Mom and Dad are still here. Everything can start over again.”
Her mother, Chloe Chastain, immediately stepped forward and hugged her tightly, speaking gently, “It’s going to be okay, Anne. I’m here, and your dad would never let anyone hurt you.”
Anne’s father, James Chastain, followed suit, his voice steady and commanding. “Don’t be afraid, sweetheart. I got your back.”
The video of Hugh cheating with Alicia had been seen by both her parents, and their anger was palpable. There was no way they’d allow their daughter to suffer such humiliation.
Hearing her parents‘ voices brought a rush of emotions Annet hadn’t felt in so long. Overwhelmed, she turned and hugged Chloe fiercely, holding on as if letting go wasn’t an option. “Mom,” she choked out.
Chloe froze for a moment, assuming Anne was overcome with sadness, and gently patted her back. “It’s okay, sweetheart. If you need to cry, let it out. We’re here for you.”
Anne shook her head firmly, her voice filled with conviction. “I’m not sad. I’m relieved–so relieved. Mom, Dad, Hugh and Alicia were clearly fooling around behind my back for a long time.
