Chapter 9 Changing the Style
“Wait, what?” Grace’s voice was laced with disbelief.
After all, no one in their right mind would turn down the lead role in a major drama to take on a minor supporting role that wasn’t even a top contender.
“Anne, don’t you get it? The Best of Us is a mainstream, highly recommended show. Getting you cast as the lead was something I had to fight for using every resource I have. This is your best shot at breaking out. As for Shadows of Eternity, sure, it’s Mr. Jones‘ new project, but you’re not the lead anymore…”
“Grace!” Anne called her name softly, her tone firm. “I know exactly what I’m doing. I’ve read the script for Shadows of Eternity, and I really like the supporting role. Just tell Mr. Jones that I want it.”
“Anne!”
“Grace, just do as I say and send my regards to Mr. Jones. That’s all.”
Anne had read the script for Shadows of Eternity. The role she was starring was small, with a short screen time, so the whole thing would be wrapped up quickly. She just liked this role because it was the older sister of the female lead, and the script had a lot of intense scenes between them.

The new female lead was Alicia, and all the resources Anne had worked to provide were now in Alicia’s hands. Now, she was curious to see if Alicia could handle the scenes with her.
The other reason she chose this path was that she wanted to watch Alicia taste failure firsthand.
Her debut was just the beginning. Next, she planned to take control of Chastain Holdings.
Right now, the majority of the shares in Chastain Holdings were held by James and the other shareholders, with James controlling most of it. With so many people eyeing the family business, she needed to help James secure his position and keep the schemers at bay.
Anne hadn’t even started looking for those people yet, and they were already knocking on her door.
“Your grandma needs us to go back to the manor. She’s got something urgent.”
It was nearing evening when James rushed back from work and specifically told Anne to go, saying that her grandmother, Judy Chastain, wanted to see her.
“What does she want with Anne?” Chloe asked, her face tight
with frustration.
Anne stood up, brushing it off with a small smile. “We’ll find out when we get there.” She glanced at James and added, “Give me five minutes. I’ll just go upstairs and change.”

As she walked upstairs, she overheard her parents arguing.

“Your mom calling for Anne now? That can’t be good. Probably some nonsense Joshua and Victoria whispered in her ear again. She always sides with them.” Chloe fumed, her voice dripping with anger. “With what Alicia’s done, I bet your mom’s still on her side.”
Anne walked into her room, her eyes darkening slightly. It was definitely strange for Judy to call for her at this time.
In this new life, she’d almost forgotten about Judy.
After her grandfather passed away, Judy moved into the Chastain Manor and left the control of Chastain Holdings to James. Since then, she had been living there, mostly keeping to herself and avoiding contact with their family. Anne knew that Judy was upset because her grandfather didn’t hand over the company to Joshua before he died.
Now, with Judy suddenly asking to see her, she could easily guess that Alicia’s family had been whispering in her ear, stirring things up.
Judy had always been easily swayed, and she couldn’t see the real picture.
In the past life, after the accident, Hugh had married Anne, but Judy still treated her like she was beneath him, constantly mocking her.

In reality, Joshua had always been around Judy, using her to undermine James and take over the company. Once he had control, the first thing he would do was remove her from the picture. Anne couldn’t help but wonder if Judy would regret it when she knew everything.
Chloe had always respected Judy as an elder, and every time they visited Judy, she felt uncomfortable. But now, everything had changed. Anne wasn’t going to hold herself back this time, not even a little.
She quickly changed into a bold, eye–catching dress, one that was short enough to show off her legs, the style daring and confident.
She smiled at her reflection in the mirror. This look was bold, just like everything she planned to do next.
In the past, she would’ve never worn something like this. She was always a graceful, well–behaved lady, gentle, poised, and polite.
Grace had also once teased her for being too restrained.
Anne smiled at herself in the mirror and walked downstairs.
When James and Chloe heard her footsteps and looked up, they both froze for a moment at the sight of her. The change in her wast undeniable.
Anne walked up to them with a calm smile. “Dad, Mom, let’s go!” Without waiting, she turned and walked out with elegant

steps.
James and Chloe stood there, watching her go. They couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. Their daughter had definitely changed. She was brighter, more radiant than ever before.

The Chastain Manor was located on the outskirts, and it took a while to get through the massive gates.
James drove with Chloe in the passenger seat, while Anne sat in the back.
“Anne, if this has anything to do with Alicia, just stay quiet. I’ll handle it,” James said, his tone serious.
“Dad, don’t worry. I’ve got this. If I can’t even handle something like this, how am I supposed to help you run the company in the future?”
James blinked, clearly taken aback, before turning to look at her with a surprised but pleased expression.
“Anne, you…
Anne met his gaze. The excitement in his eyes was impossible to miss. In the past, James had hoped to teach her how to take charge of the family business, but she had rejected it outright and even suggested Hugh could help instead.
Chastain Holdings had been through many hardships, all the way from her grandfather’s time, and had grown steadily under James‘ leadership. He knew he wouldn’t be around forever and

would need a capable successor. If Anne could take on that responsibility, he’d be more than happy.

Anne couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret for the naive things she’d said before. But at least life had given her a second chance to make things right.
When they finally arrived at the old house, they stepped out of the car. The butler, Leon Walker, was already waiting at the
door.
“Mr. James Chastain, you’re finally here. Madam Chastain has been waiting for you for quite a while.”
James nodded, exchanged a look with Chloe and Anne, and led them inside.
