As soon as someone in the crowd spoke up, Beatrice shouted even louder, “Everyone, come and look at this shameless woman who gave birth to an illegitimate baby!
“She just gave birth and is already trying to get rid of me and my son! My poor son treated her so well, yet she hid everything from him throughout her entire pregnancy!”
“You’re lying!” Cameron stood up and wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. “It was you who took advantage of Ms. Harriet being pregnant and attacked her. You two forced her into preterm labor. Now, you’re trying to kill both her and her child!
“And for the record, Ms. Harriet never had an affair. It was this man who cheated and orchestrated the online harassment against her. I’ve already given the evidence to the police. Nathan, you just wait!”
The crowd laughed mockingly.
“She cheated, gave birth to an illegitimate baby, insulted a government researcher, and now, she’s calling the police! As if they’d take her side!”
“But that man did seem to have an affair,” someone muttered.
Beatrice snapped immediately, “So, what if my son cheated? Are you saying this witch didn’t?!
“My son is a government researcher! He’s serving the country! She is nothing compared to him!”
Before she could say anything further, the police arrived. They showed their IDs as they entered. They looked at Nathan and said, “Nathan Bardot, please come with us.”
Beatrice’s face twisted in anger.
“Have you lost your mind? How dare you arrest my son?! He is a government researcher! It’s that witch in bed who should be taken away! Oh, my God, how could the police side with someone like her?”
The crowd erupted in outrage.
One ‘helpful‘ bystander chimed in, “Officer, that woman had an affair, gave birth to another man’s child, and humiliated one of our nation’s researchers!”
The police officer turned and glared at the crowd. “Stop making baseless accusations!”
Then, he turned back to Nathan. “Nathan Bardot, let’s go. Now!”
Nathan trembled, but Beatrice stepped in front of him defiantly. “How dare you lay a hand on my son! He’s serving the country, and you people can’t even tell right from wrong. This is truly disheartening!”
The police officer shouted at Beatrice, “Who are you? Why are you making a fuss?”
