It was the first time Stella had met someone so shameless. She was a little scared but still stood in front of me. “Mom, I know kickboxing. I’ll protect you!”
While I felt comforted, I knew Beatrice would not back down easily. It was better to leave while we still could.

“Mom! Mom!” shouted the little boy suddenly. I turned and saw a woman who looked a little disheveled. She was walking toward us.
She was wearing high heels and carrying a bag. She jogged over to us. “Mom, I’ve been treating you with respect and taking care of you every day. How could you do this to me?!”
“Don’t call me that! The only daughter–in–law I have is Harriet! You witch! You don’t have the right to call me that!”
“Beatrice, what are you saying?” The woman looked at me. “So, you’ve met Nathan’s rich ex- wife, and now, you don’t want me anymore? I’ve been taking care of you day in and day out, and now, you say you don’t need me? Why are you humiliating me like this?
“At least I gave you a son. Without him, your family wouldn’t even have an heir!”
Beatrice spat and did not back down. “It’s your fault, you witch! You seduced my son and ruined his family. If it weren’t for you, he wouldn’t be suffering so much.
“You loose woman! You got married, yet you still work in those shady places. Who knows how many men have touched you? You’ve turned my son into a laughingstock!”
Luna suddenly laughed in exasperation. “I seduced him?”
She swung her bag and hit Beatrice hard on the head. “It was your son who told me he had money and tricked me into having his child!
“And as soon as I gave birth, he told me he had no money left!
“You two ruined my life. I got doxxed and harassed online. No one would take me in. That’s why I had to work in those places!”
Beatrice limped toward Luna and pushed her. Luna twisted her ankle and fell to the ground.
