I went home in advance on my own and packed my things. After that, I went to the kitchen to start making today’s dinner.
Silas arrived home just as I was about done. He sat quietly by the dinner table, watching as I busied about.
Soon, I served him a plate of pasta and watched as he wolfed it down. Every bite showed how much he enjoyed the food.
“Nina, don’t worry. The people you dislike will never bother you again,” Silas said matter–of–factly as he ate. When I did not reply, he looked up at me.
“This is also our farewell meal.” I looked at him with a calm smile, watching his every bite.
“What are you talking about, Nina? If you want, and I mean if, you can consider staying with me. Forever.”
“And what about the girl you like? Are you giving up on her?” I looked directly at
Silas.
He looked straight back at me. “If I hadn’t said that, you wouldn’t have allowed me to get this close to you.”
Men were surprisingly similar when confessing their love.
“Silas, you never loved me. You’re here to keep an eye on behalf of your older sister, Rachel.”
Silas‘ smile stiffened, his eyes full of disbelief and confusion.
“You’ve been investigating my past. What makes you think I can’t do the same for you?”
In truth, I always knew about Silas‘ relationship with Rachel. I only let him stay by my side to figure out what he was after.
I knew Rachel would not give up so easily after failing to win Victor over. Even so, I was curious to know why her brother went to all that effort to investigate my whereabouts and approach me.
“How did you know? Never mind, what I really want to ask is… What else do you know?” Silas put down his fork, wiped his mouth, and leaned into his chair, waiting for my reply.
