Chapter 2: Cancel the Engagement

Chapter 2: Cancel the Engagement

(Scarlett’s POV

I slammed the door to my office, the loud bang echoing down the hallway. My blood felt molten, coursing through my veins as my breathing came fast and hard. I leaned against the edge of my desk, gripping its polished rosewood surface with trembling hands. The sharp edges of my claws

extended without warning, gouging deep marks into the wood

Cora was a storm in my mind, her fury pouring into me with every breath I took. She roared, pacing within me, her emotions as wild as mine

Pathetic, she growled. How dare he? How DARE he pretend we’re nothing more than pawns to be moved at his whim!”

Ibraced myself, trying to push back the tide of anger flooding through me. Cora,I started, but her voice cut through my thoughts sharply

No, Scarlett. No. Enough! This arrangement with him is a sham. You know it, I know it. He knows it. And now he dares to dismiss us? To humiliate

us? He doesn’t deserve even a shred of our time, let alone our bond!”

She wasn’t wrong. Everything she said struck a chord deep in me. Alexander, with his cold, calculating demeanor, his disregard for me, for this

arrangement, was nothing but a constant insult, And now? Now, he’d gone too far

The image of him lounging in his chair, exhaling smoke like he ruled the world, flashed in my mind. The sheer audacity of it made my fists clench so

lightly that my knuckles ached

He doesn’t care about you about anyone but himself,” Cora snarled. You KNOW that?”

I let out a shaky breath, my claws retracting slightly. She wasn’t wrong. She never was. T handle it, Cora,I finally murmured, but my voice wavered

Before I could collect myself further, the door to my office burst open

I turned sharply, my gaze locking onto the looming figure in the doorway. Alexander. His broad shoulders filled the frame, his presence commanding as always. He barely even paused before stepping inside, not bothering to knock or even announce himself

I tensed, straightening instinctively. Do you mind?I asked coldly, though my voice carried the edge of the storm brewing inside me.don’t recall

inviting you in.”

He ignored me. His sharp grey eyes scanned the room briefly before landing back on me. His face carried the same infuriatingly calm expression as

always. Arrogant. Detached. And entirely dismissive

Scarlett,” he began, his tone smooth and practiced, as though he were addressing inconvenience and not the chaos he’d created. Grace is unwell

She needs me at her side.”

I watched with mounting fury as he pulled out a cigarette, lighting it without a care in the world

The scent of smoke hit me almost immediately, acrid and offensive, coiling in the air like a challenge. He knew I hated it. He knew. And yet here he

was, lighting one in my space deliberately

The marking ceremony, he continued, exhaling a cloud of smoke, let’s postpone it.”

I didn’t move at first. I didn’t speak. The simmering rage inside me burned hotter as every word he spoke settled over me. Cora growled low, pacing

with frustration in the back of my mind

Finally, I stepped out from behind my desk, my movements slow and deliberate. My heels clicked softly against the floor as I moved closer, the weight of my anger drawing the room into a suffocating silence

Unwell? My voice was calm, dangerously so, and my eyes locked onto his. Or pregnant?”

That wiped the calm right off his face. For just a moment, the alwayscontrolled Alexander fahered. His jaw tightened, his body stiffening as the words sank in

1/1

Who,he started, his voice a warning growl, told you this?”

I tilted my head slightly, the corner of my lips twitching into something that might have been a smirk if it weren’t so filled with disdain. You paraded

her around the healer’s den yourself, Alexander, I said, my tone cutting and sharp. Did you really think no one would notice? Obstetrics and gynecology isn’t exactly common for silver poisoning treatments, now is it?”

His face darkened further, his own wolf, Mason, bristling faintly beneath the surface. I felt the first ripple of his Alpha power fill the room, heavy and

oppressive as it sought to assert itself

Then came the roar. Deep and resonant, it shook the very walls of my office. His expression was pure fury, his voice shaking with authority as it

echoed in the enclosed space

You dare question ME?he growled, taking a step forward. His height and presence made the air seem thicker, but I didn’t flinch

Instead, I met his gaze headon, my own power flickering just enough to push back against his dominance. Cora surged forward, her icy strength coursing into me and cutting through his oppressive aura like a blade

“You’re in my office,I pointed out coldly. You dare roar at ME?”

His lip curled in anger, his hand crushing the cigarette in an ashtray as he leaned forward slightly. His voice dropped lower, more dangerous. Grace is

not pregnanthe said with finality, though the flicker of doubt in his eyes betrayed the lie. What this is about is loyalty. I can’t abandon her when she

needs me. Scarlett. She has no one else.”

I felt Cors growl deeply in my mind, her disgust mirrored in my expression. Loyalty?I bit out, my words practically dripping with venom. And what about MY loyalty. Alexander?”

I let out a harsh laugh, the sound devoid of humor. Do you think I’ll stand here, pretending everything is fine, while you mend your guilt in her arma and parade her around under my nose?I took another step closer, my voice rising. You think I accept being SECOND?”

She’s-

“Save it,I snapped, cutting him off. My emerald eyes flashed with fury as my claws extended fully once more. You think this bond matters to me

anymore? It’s not a real bond, Alexander. This was always about politics, wasn’t it?I didn’t give him the chance to respond, pressing on as pure, cold rage took over my voice. Then why don’t we call this what it truly is? Over.”

He froze. For the first time, I saw real shock ripple across his normally composed features. His body went still, and for a split second, he looked…

lost

But

Cora and I didn’t care. The satisfying fracture of his arrogant façade only fueled me further

There are no more spouse bonds to wait for I hissed, my voice lower now but no less deadly. You want to postpone something that was never real in the first place? Fine. Let’s just pretend this never happened. From this moment forward, Alexander, you mean nothing to me.”

The silence that followed was heavy and suffocating. His face was an unreadable mask, though the tension in his jaw betrayed the storm beneath it

I turned and walked away without another word. He wasn’t worth another word

The second I stepped back into the administrative hub of the packhouse, I was met with whispers Light but constant, like an irritating buzz that seemed to follow me everywhere

“She ripped the dress, you know…

Grace is already ahead of her anyway. What did she expect?”

She doesn’t belong here. She never-

The words stopped as suddenly as they’d started when I raised my head, my green eyes scanning the room. My glare settled over each and every wolf present, silencing them faster than a command

Holding myself tall, I strode forward and stopped near the desk of a trembling Omega. She was the boldest among them, the one whose whispers had lingered the loudest in my ears

Slowly, I reached out and gripped her chin. My fingers were firm but careful, keeping my touch just shy of harmful. Her head jerked up under my hand, her wide, terrified eyes locking with mine

Look at me,I commanded softly, though the steel in my vo

volce left no room for disobedience

She whimpered faintly, but her gaze stayed locked on mine. My emerald eyes burned brightly, my power channeling just enough to let her feel it, to let press down on her until her submission was absolute

Do I look like someone you underestimate?I asked, my voice razorsharp, cutting through the room like a blade

She shook her head rapidly, her lip trembling. Nno, Luna!”

Good.I said, releasing her chin with a flick of my wrist. Then I suggest you think twice before letting my name cross your lips again in anything but

respect

I raised my head and swept my gaze over the room. The fear in their eyes was palpable, their heads all bowing as I moved past them. The silence now was the kind of silence I demandedone of submission, not pity or disdain

They could whisper behind closed doors. They could gossip out of my earshot if it made them feel brave. But they would learn what my name meant. And they would learn that I wouldn’t tolerate their insolence
