Chapter 28: Who Do You Like?
Chapter 28: Who Do You Like?
(Scarlett’s POV)
Roman’s icy blue gaze burned into mine. His intense presence was absolutely suffocating, even as we lounged in the quiet of my villa living room. The space felt too small too heavy with his endless questions.
“You seem to have conveniently omitted a few details earlier, Little Wolf,” he said, his voice steady but laced with threat.
I tensed. His relentless probing wasn’t letting up anytime soort I already knew that.
“What specifically are you accusing me of leaving out this time?” I asked, my tone cool, though internally, I was scrambling
His lips curved into a humorless smirk. “How about we revisit the matter of your fiancé?” The venom in the word “Tiance” was hard to miss.
Cora shifted nervously beneath my skin, a low growl of unease teasing the edges of my mind.
Roman leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees, his ice–blue eyes sharp as daggers. “Why Alexander? Why the Amber Pack, Scarlett? Don’t insult my intelligence with vague answers. I want the truth”
I swallowed hard, avoiding his intense stare. “It wasn’t about him,” I said softly. “It wasn’t about wanting Alexander. It was about what that connection could protect me from,”
“Protect you?” His voice dropped lower, almost predatory. He reached out, gripping my wrist and pulling me closer until we were nearly at eye level His dominance washed over me like an unrelenting wave. “Don’t lie to me, Little Wolf. I’ve watched you lie since we were pups. You’re terrible at it.”
My breath hitched, and Cora whimpered faintly underneath my skin. Roman never let up, his grip on my wrist tightening just enough to feel controlling but not painful
I sighed heavily, my voice cracking under his constant pressure. “Fine! You want the truth? It was because of the Morrisons. I thought–if I kept a low enough profile, if I blended into where I was needed–I’d avoid their attention. Avoid suspicion.”
Roman’s grip didn’t ease. If anything, it grew firmer as his brow furrowed, his ice–blue stare colder than ever. “So sacrificing your independence for a political engagement was easier than confiding in me?” His tone was laced with anger and something worse–disappointment.
“You weren’t there, Roman!” I snapped, my frustration boiling over. My voice wavered as I continued. had t
had to make decisions in the moment- decisions you didn’t have time to consult on because you were trying to maintain the Thorn Pack’s stability!”
He didn’t interrupt, didn’t even blink. Just continued staring at me with unwavering intensity.
“The Amber Pack gave me a way to look weak, I admitted quietly, my voice soft but tinged with bitter resignation made myself look untouchable through submission. And it worked, Roman. The Morrisons didn’t make a move until much later–when you took them down.”
Silence filled the room, heavy and suffocating, Roman’s proximity didn’t ease as he processed my words. I could see his wolf Logan flash brightly in
his expression for a moment before restraint returned.
Finally, he let go of my wrist, though his hand lingered against my shoulder. The faint bruising pressure he left there was almost comforting. “You’re lucky that strategy didn’t backfire completely,” he said, his voice stripped down to raw honesty. “Because to me, it just looked like abandonment”
His words stabbed deeper than they should have. My chest tightened painfully, but there was no time to wallow. Roman wasn’t going to let me
Never lie to me again, Scarlett, he growled before leaning back in his seat.
For the first time, I saw faint satisfaction pooling beneath his rage, like something primal in him had been temporarily appeased by my truth.
But something flickered in his icy blue eyes–possessiveness. And it scared me.
(Alexander’s POV)
Grace’s shallow breaths filled the sacred healing den like broken whispers of glass. Her pale skin flushed with sickly hues as beads of sweat poured
down her face.
She was muttering incoherently, her voice hoarse and labored. The sight of her twisted in pain filled my chest with a suffocating heaviness.

“This shouldn’t be happening.” I snapped, pacing furiously as my gaze flicked toward Sarah “kust yesterday, she was sti

Sarah looked equally distraught, her fingers clenching onto the back of an ornate chair the opened her mouth to answer but stopped when Grace len
out a strangled cry
I immediately moved to her side, gently cupping her face. “Toice” I whispered, my voice dipping low trying to soothe her “Hold on Say with me?
Her dul blue eyes cracked open, her trembling lips forming my name. “Alexander
My entire chest clenched as she reached for my wrist, her touch leather–light and hesitant.
I turned to the healers with barely restrained fury. “Where the hell is Hazel the could’ve stopped this hours ago
One of the lead healers stepped forward nervously “Alpha, she’s returned to Europe. We-
“I know where the damn healer is barked, my voice reverberating with Mason’s power. “But why haven’t ANY of you found someone capable of
treating her here?”
Sarah pressed a steadying hand against Grace’s forehead, her expression flickering between grief and determination. She finally turned to me, her
voice trembling. “Alexander, you need to convince Scarlett to recall Hazel. She’ll listen to you”
Her words struck a nerve
I wanted to lash out. To scream and snarl that Scarlett was not the solution to everything. That Scarlett wasn’t someone I could just command
anymore. But Grace’s trembling body anchored my fury
Instead, I let out a guttural growl and stormed out of the healing den, slamming the door behind me. My breathing was shallow as I fought to control Mason’s growing rage inside me.
What choice did have?
Scarlett wouldn’t forgive me. She’d already blocked me everywhere, and even when I tried through Jason, she didn’t engage. How the hell was i
supposed to convince her of anything?!
Still, Grace’s agonized cries echoed in my mind, more relentless than my frustration.
Through gritted teeth, I grabbed my phone and steadied my trembling fingers long enough to dial.
“Scarlett,” I hissed quietly into the ringing tone. “Answer me.”
(Scarlett’s POV)
The vibration of my phone shattered the uneasy tension between Roman and me. His sharp game landed on it as I pulled it out hesitantly
The name flashing across the screen made me grimace. Alexander.
Without a second thought, I hit decline.
Roman’s eyebrow lifted dangerously, his face painted with a silent but unmistakable question
“Not important,” I muttered, stuffing the phone back into my pocket. “I didn’t want anyone disturbing us.”
He released a faint hum, somewhere between amusement and approval, his head tilting slightly “Good. You’ve finally got your prorities right
Or so I thought. The phone buzzed again, louder this time. A faint growl escaped Roman’s throat as he swiftly reached for it, snatching it from my hand before I could stop him.
“Roman, don’t-”
But it was too late. He answered with deliberate calm, his tone icy as steel. “Scarlett’s occupied
A strained, weary voice croaked through the receiver Alexander, I didn’t need to listen to the words to know from his tone that he was pleading
“Anything you want Alexander’s voice rasped. “It’s yours–whatever price you name–1 sign it awa
Romar’s jaw tightened visibly, his icy blue eyes darkening with disdain.

He tossed the phone back into my lap, his piercing gaze cutting through me with clear judgment. “Pathetic,” he muttered. “Offering scraps like that. You deserve better groveling attempts than this.”
I didn’t respond immediately, too caught between panic and embarrassment over the interaction.
“It isn’t like that,” I blurted desperately “Alexander only says those things for himself. None of it is motivated by… affection.
Roman didn’t look convinced. His piercing gaze softened just enough to switch from judgment to something more curious. His next question came
low and steady.
“So, you don’t like your fiancé now? Then tell me. Scarlett-”
His thumb brushed the edge of my jaw lightly, a calculated smirk forming as he leaned in, dangerous and close.“–who do you like?”
