A tear fell onto the document.
“I can’t accept this! This is Lyra’s company, built with her blood, sweat, and tears. It should stay with your family.” He turned to my father.
Caden tried to return the document to my father, but my father shook his head.
“Do you
think I have the energy to run this company anymore?” He said with a sad smile. ” Lyra’s mother has already fallen ill, and all I need to do is take care of her. His words stung me deeply once again.
“Mom, you must get better,” I said silently.
Caden gripped the share transfer document tightly and made a solemn promise to my father.

“I will manage the company Lyra left behind to the best of my ability!”
That night, Caden drove home alone. I sat in the car, enveloped by the scent of the sea on him. For the first time, I felt I had made the right decision before I died.
When Caden returned home, I saw a familiar figure standing at his door.
It was Drake.
Drake’s eyes were red and swollen, his face pale.
“What are you doing here?” Caden asked, his tone icy. He opened the door and got inside. Drake followed him.
“Tonight is your wedding night. Shouldn’t you be with your mate? Why did you come here?” Caden continued to mock him.
“I haven’t marked Aeris yet. She’s not my mate,” Drake replied.
His response surprised me as well as Caden. He gestured for Drake to sit and handed him the beer can.
I remembered how, on the night he marked me, he bit down hard on my neck and said. “Aeris is my real mate! I should have been marking Aeris tonight!”
“How did Lyra die?” Drake asked, gulping down a large swig of beer.
“She was attacked by rogues. You were there, weren’t you? You should know better than I do.” Caden hissed.
“But it was just a scratch on her arm. How could she have died from that?” Drake still looked incredulous. “Was her wolf toxin real?”
“What do you think?” Caden replied flatly.
“If I had known she was poisoned, I would have waited for her to recover. I never would’ve-” Drake’s voice cracked, and he hurled the beer bottle against the wall.
Caden scoffed. “She told you, didn’t she? But as usual, you didn’t believe her. She was infected with a rare wolf toxin. The doctors said if they couldn’t identify the toxin within a week, her heart would fail, and she would die.
I had contacted every werewolf hospital in the country, but you took her chance to heal and survive.”
“Me?! “Drake asked, surprised.
“Yes, you!!” Caden shouted, grabbing Drake by the collar. “You rejected her when she was at her weakest! How are you any different from the person who poisoned her?”
“I didn’t know… I didn’t know…” Drake collapsed onto the couch, mumbling to himself.

“The day you threw her out, she coughed up blood and fainted. And then… she never woke again,” Caden said, his voice heavy with grief.

“The day after she passed, the doctors finally identified the toxin. Now you understand how you killed her!”
Drake broke down.
He clutched his head and began sobbing uncontrollably. But Caden didn’t comfort him. Instead he commanded him to leave.
