Caden went into my office, and began sorting through my files, carefully reviewing
everything.
Around noon, he noticed the pot of roses on my desk and gently stroked the petals with tears in his eyes.
I remembered those roses–they were Caden’s birthday gift to me last year.
In our three years of marriage, Drake had never once given me a birthday gift. But Caden… every year had prepared something for me, without fail.
“You know,” Caden said while watering the roses, “I’ve always loved the scent of roses on you.

Chapter B
His words froze me.
Could it be that Caden had feel…No, No…
I shook my head.
I’m already dead. Even if Caden did have special feelings for me, what would change?
Some people, some things–once missed, are missed forever.
After watering the roses, Caden resumed organizing the company’s files.
Though he was young, he had served as my assistant for a year and was more than capable of stepping into the role of CEO.
In the afternoon, Caden held a meeting with the department heads. Midway through the meeting, the doors burst open.
It was none but Drake and Aeris.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Caden hissed.
“We’ve come to reclaim what rightfully belongs to Drake,” Aeris said, stepping forward.
“I’m not here to fight over assets,” Drake quickly clarified. “I just want to collect Lyra’s belongings. She was my wife, and I have a responsibility to protect this company. She poured so much of her heart into it–I can’t just stand by.”
“Responsibility?” Caden sneered. “Where was that ‘responsibility‘ when she was still alive?”
“Caden, aren’t you meddling a little too much?” Aeris interjected. “Lyra was still Drake’s ex- wife. The fact that she left the company to you instead of her husband is highly suspicious. Or could it be that there was something going on between you and Lyra?”
Her words instantly made Caden furious. He stood abruptly, marched up to Aeris, and slapped her hard across the face.
“You have no right to slander Lyra! You’re not even worthy to speak her name!”
Aeris cupped her burning cheek, her eyes wide with shock and anger.
“Caden! Aeris is your sister–in–law now. No matter what she said, you can’t treat her like this! “Drake said, stepping in front of Aeris.
“Drake, I can accept you are here for Lyra’s belongings. But Aeris? Who gave her the right to come here and seize Lyra’s assets?”
Aeris snapped back, “Caden, stop spouting nonsense! I couldn’t care less about any of this. But you, constantly speaking up for Lyra–could it be that you’re feeling guilty?”
Caden let out a cold laugh.

“Guilty? Three years ago, why did you really leave Drake? You know the truth as well as I do.
never forced you out. You went to her parents, asked for money, and willingly left the pack—and
Lyake.”
“Ridiculous!” Drake Interrupted. “I’ve heard that lie before! Caden, you’ve been deceived, haven’t you? You just believe whatever Lyra’s family tells you?”
Caden fell silent for a moment, a smirk forming on his lips.
He slowly shook his head, his gaze drifting to the void.
“Lyra, now I understand why you sald there was no need to explain… You really did love the wrong person.”
Standing beside Caden, I whispered silently,
“Yeah, but you always believed in me, and that was enough!
Caden then went to the file room and retrieved a thick file, handing it to Drake.
“This contains the truth about why Aeris left you back then.”
