Chapter 5
Although Antonio and I were in a contractual marriage, both of our families attached great importance to this wedding. I had been so busy with the wedding preparations that I hadn’t had a moment to
rest.
While I was trying on my wedding dress, my phone on the sofa rang. Antonio happened to be sitting there, so I directly said to him, “Antonio, can you answer the phone for me?”
A few seconds later, the phone was still ringing. I pushed aside the curtain and walked over, puzzled.
“Why aren’t you answering?”
He held the phone towards me, gritting his teeth, and sarcastically said, “It’s Henry calling. Should I answer it?”
I was stunned for a moment, then stepped forward to take the phone, pressing the answer and speaker buttons.
“Have you realized your mistake?” Henry blurted out.
I sneered, “What mistake? Henry, are you out of your mind?”
Heavy breathing came through the receiver. Henry impatiently said, “Haven’t you had enough? I forgave you for leaving my mom behind. But now my mom is in the hospital with no one to take care of her. You need to come back immediately and take

care of her.”
I was so angry that I clenched the phone tightly, really wanting to slap him.
Antonio frowned. He walked over and hugged me, deliberately softening his tone. “Cynthia, you need to change your gown now.”
Hearing a strange man’s voice, Henry was instantly ignited.
“Cynthia, where are you? What are you doing?”
I looked at Antonio and smiled, my tone lifted, “I’m trying on my wedding dress. I’m getting married next week.”
“I don’t believe it,” Henry blurted out.
Just as I was about to speak, Annie’s voice came through.
“Henry, can you help me with my zipper? It’s stuck.”
Henry yelled at her to be quiet, and then he said sarcastically, “You’re getting married? To whom? Are you having a wedding with the air? Should I congratulate you on your happy marriage?”
Looking at Antonio’s dark face, my heart skipped a beat. I quickly said, “Thank you for your blessings,” and immediately hung up.
“Antonio, don’t be angry.”

I hugged Antonio’s arm and cooed at him.
He stared straight at me, a blush spreading across his face, but he still stubbornly said, “You still have your ex–boyfriend’s number?”
I blinked, holding up my phone. “I’ll delete him right now.”
Meanwhile, Henry looked at the hung–up phone in shock.
A wave of unease washed over him–Cynthia had never hung up on him before. When he tried calling Cynthia again, all he got was a busy signal, which meant he had been blocked by Cynthia.
