hapter 7
I saw Henry again at the entrance of a dinner party. He looked exhausted, with bloodshot eyes. His clothes were wrinkled, and he lacked the usual vigor he once had. When he saw me, he eagerly stepped forward.
“Cynthia, I finally found you.”
I stepped back, avoiding his hand. This was a real–name event, and I had no idea how he got the information.
Henry’s smile froze for a moment, then he forced an even gentler expression.
“I haven’t heard from you in so long. I’ve missed you so much.”
My face turned cold.
“Mr. Williams, please show some respect. There are reporters here.”
He looked incredulous and hurt, his voice hoarse as he asked, “What did you call me?
“Cynthia, you never used to call me that. You never went so long without contacting me, and you were never this cold to me.
“Why did you block my number? Do you know how hard I’ve been trying to find you?

“Williams Group needs you, and I need you too. Come home with me, Cynthia.”
With that, he opened his arms, waiting for me.
I laughed in disbelief, looking at him with mockery.
“Home? Henry, have you forgotten that we broke up?”
“Did we?” Henry muttered, as if he had no idea.
“When did we break up? I didn’t know about it. I just wanted you to reflect on things. I never said we were breaking up.
“Cynthia, you’re still angry, aren’t you? I promise I’ll fire Annie and make her apologize to you. Let’s go back and finish the wedding.”
As he spoke, he grabbed my hand and tried to pull me toward his
car.
Suddenly, a fist flew past my ear and struck Henry in the face.
“Let her go.”
I didn’t need to look back to know it was Antonio.
After breaking free, I hid behind Antonio, staring at Henry as if he were insane.
Henry wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with his

thumb and looked up. When he saw Antonio, he was stunned.
“Mr. Steers?”
Antonio ignored him, holding my hand and checking on me.
“Are you okay?”
I nodded my head.
Henry got up, staring at us in shock.
“Cynthia, how do you know him?”
Antonio pulled me into his arms and glared at Henry.
“You’re harassing my wife.”
Henry looked as if he had been struck by lightning, pointing at us and stammering, “You… you… Cynthia is your wife? This must be fake. You’re lying to me.”
The host of the banquet came out to greet Antonio.
“Mr. Steers, Ms. Mitchell, welcome. Please come in.”
Henry tried to stop us but was blocked by security. He stood there, his face pale with anger, watching us leave.
